Motivation Letter

Dear Sir/Madam,
I came from Indonesia, a developing country in Southeast Asia where its total
population over 230 million by 2010. Indonesia, however still stumble in the
10th rank country in terms of clean water difficulty access, despite its richness
in natural resources, especially water. Realizing this, Indonesian government
and civilians start to build water treatment plant in domain that hard to reach
clean water. Almost all of the water treatment plant in Indonesia still use the
conventional technology to treat the raw water, so not all of the characteristic
of raw water can be treated in water treatment plant. Because of that,
Indonesian especially college student or researcher always try to find the best
technology to produce clean water. We (Indonesian) believe that by doing
these, clean water needed for all of domain or province in Indonesia will be
fulfilled.
In order to assist my country, I have decided to take a part in Summer School
I : Water and Human Health Urban Systems - Toxicology and Epidemiology,
microbiology and risk assessment. The topic of the summer school is very
suitable with my country lately and I am sure that obtaining this summer
school will help me to gain a solid competence in this field of study. After
joining this summer school I will try to apply the result of the lecturer in
Indonesia and of course by explaining the result of the summer school to
student or lecturer who are competent in this topic.
It is unarguably true that raw water quality will influence the water treatment
plant. The quality of raw water will become worse if people do not take a part
to manage the environment. There are many examples tell us about it. The
river qualities in Indonesia become worse because of solid waste that was
dropt in to the river. Ciliwung, one of river in Indonesia still become the worst
river in the world because of the solid waste. The bad condition of river will
give the bad impact too, especially for the civilians to get the clean water. The
source of standard raw water is decrease and government have to build the
better and complicated water treatment plant that can be used to treat raw
water which is not in standard condition.
I am really interested with the topic of summer school I, because this summer
school have a solid lectures that will provides me with the strong skill in the
water and human health. Beside that, this summer school also allow the
participant to do site visit to water treatment plant in Germany. It will be the
great experience and knowledge references for applying the technology in
Indonesia.
I personally think that I will be suitable candidate for summer school I: Water
and Human Health Urban Systems - Toxicology and Epidemiology, microbiology

and risk assessment, because I have bachelor degree in environmental

engineering that study about water and waste water treatment plant. In
addition, environmental engineering also study about human health. My
bachelor degree of course make me definitely know about the water treatment
plant process, standard design and how the raw water or clean water should
be.
During my bachelor studies, I was involved in water treatment plant project. I
had presented the water treatment plant design to get the permit that proved
the plant was worthy to be used. In other hand, I was involved in many student
organizations too. I was a staff of BEM, HMTL and some other organization.
These organization experiences make me able to blend and work in team
easily.
I will be grateful if I can be accepted to enroll in Summer School I:Water and
Human Health Urban Systems - Toxicology and Epidemiology, microbiology and
risk assessment. Because it will give me a lot of benefit, with follow the
lectures about the topic and it will allow me to know more about water
treatment technology.
