system dynamics offers applicationoriented environments and dedicated
capabilities to specify, design and validate
the vehicle dynamics as well as the chassis
subsystems and components. The solutions
allow easy and seamless integration in a
single modeling environment.
The vehicle system dynamics solutions from
Siemens PLM Software present a unique,
open-integration platform to model and
simulate cars, light trucks and off-highway
vehicles using actuators in a straightforward and continuous integration process
covering model-in-the-loop (MiL), softwarein-the-loop (SiL), hardware-in-the-loop (HiL)
and driver-in-the-loop. The solutions
include an extensive vehicle dynamics
application, physical modeling libraries, a
dedicated toolset, ready-to-use templates,
solution demonstrators and interfaces with
simulation suites such as LMS Virtual.Lab
Motion software, MSC Adams and Simulink.

Braking system
With the LMS Imagine.Lab Braking System
solution, you can design and optimize
individual braking components (such as
booster, master cylinder and electronic
stability control (ESC), hydraulic modulator
valves) as well as the complete hydraulic
braking circuit to assess dynamics, compare
different hydraulic architectures and evaluate braking distance or vehicle stability.
Moreover, the solution enables you to
seamlessly handle hydraulic and/or pneumatic systems for cars, trucks, buses,
off-highway vehicles and trains. Thanks to
the multi-domain approach, you can study
evolved brake pedal amplification systems,
regenerative braking and electric parking
brakes.
An out-of-the-box template model for the
complete ESC system, which can be used
for real-time testing, will significantly
reduce the effort you put into modeling
and will help you overcome current

challenges related to ESC homologation

and blending the ESC with the regenerative
brakes.
Using this solution will enable model
scalability and parameter sustainability
from MiL to HiL. Combining this capability
used for model simplification with the LMS
Imagine.Lab Amesim software vehicle
model allows you to build a complete
virtual process for ESC testing within a
unique environment.
Power steering system
The LMS Imagine.Lab Power Steering solution provides reliable and accurate models

to design robust power-steering systems.

Using this solution you can examine the
functionalities and performance of any
technology used in a power-steering system
and test-related electronic control units
(ECU). The multi-domain approach enables
you to deal with hydraulic power steering
(HPS), electrohydraulic power steering
(EHPS) and electric power-steering (EPS)
systems. Off-the-shelf functional template
models for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) allow you to accelerate your
learning curve and adopt more of a supplier
approach by moving to increasingly
detailed models.
Main EPS structures types (such as belt
or direct drive, rack assist, dual pinion,
pinion assist and column assist) as well as
advanced power-steering features, such
as active-front steering (AFS) or electric
steer-assisted steering (ESAS), can easily
be modeled. For HPS and EHPS, you can
generate detailed views of the rotary valve,
pump and piping circuit (rigid pipe and
hose) for more in-depth vibration, coupling
and stability (shimmy phenomenon) analyses in parking or normal driving conditions.
The solution helps you achieve optimal
steering performance, make tradeoffs
between technologies and identify critical

parameters using the LMS Amesim optimization tool.

Suspension and anti-roll system
The LMS Imagine.Lab Suspension and Antiroll solution supports sizing and analyzing
components of active anti-roll and suspension systems. You will be able to determine
the tradeoff between vehicle handling
and comfort by improving damper design
versus cavitation, modeling air-spring
systems and benefiting from a hydraulic or
electric active roll stabilizer.
Thanks to model scalability, the LMS
Imagine.Lab hydraulic and pneumatic
libraries allow functional design and
detailed analysis of passive, adaptive, semiactive and active shock absorbers in order
to assess component performance and test
them according to control strategies.
Moreover, you can apply more physics to

the system for the controller design from

MiL to HiL in a continuous integrated
process.
Chassis electrification affects active-roll
systems in which electrical actuators
replace hydraulic components. Thanks to
the LMS Imagine.Lab multi-domain
approach, you can analyze the electric
active-roll stabilizer by studying the
couplings between the electric motor and
mechanical architecture.
Thanks to the LMS Imagine.Lab pneumatic
and pneumatic component design libraries
that account for thermal aspects, you can
explore the impact of the air-spring system
on vehicle comfort and height correction,
which are of particular importance for
luxury cars or sport utility vehicles.
Vehicle dynamics
The LMS Imagine.Lab Vehicle Dynamics
solution offers an application-oriented environment with a complete and dedicated
toolset to specify, design, test and optimize
vehicle comfort as well as ride and handling
behavior from the early concept stage
onward. By providing realistic driving
scenario possibilities, the solution enables
the user to assess the interaction between
the vehicle, its key subsystems (steering,
brakes, suspension and powertrain) and
controllers to ensure optimal ride and
handling performance, driving pleasure,
comfort, enhanced safety, fuel consumption and electric/hybrid transmission
influences on vehicle stability.

LMS

To meet the demands of a shorter full

vehicle development process, the solution
presents a dedicated and easy-to-use
environment for chassis and subsystems
specification, design and validation with
functional to high-fidelity network level
models for vehicle dynamics studies.
With an application-oriented graphicaluser-interface (GUI) iCAR fully embedded in LMS Amesim, you have access to
predefined chassis subsystem templates
and the benefits of solution modularity
to create functional models for vehicle
dynamics. The chassis design-oriented
environment takes advantage of the LMS
Amesim multi-domain platform with its
modeling modularity, excellent solver
capabilities, specific physical libraries,
analysis tools and software interfaces. It
opens up integration possibilities for OEMs
and suppliers.
The solution comes with a large set of
dedicated tools and workflows especially
useful for chassis and subsystems design,
including data management, library of
subsystem templates, International
Organization for Standardization (ISO)
and National Highway Traffic Satefy
Administration (NHTSA) predefined maneuvers. It also provides OpenStreet-Map
road import, trajectory designer and
mission builder, parametric functions on
kinematics tables for axle specification,
specific chassis criteria analyzer and
optimization tools. The strong integration
capability of the vehicle dynamics engineering process provides detailed insight
into the numerous components and system
interactions that determine vehicle ride
and handling profile.

Vehicle dynamics control

The LMS Imagine.Lab Vehicle Dynamics
Control solution helps you simulate vehicles, sensors, actuators and the chassis
control system strategy in a single comprehensive platform, which can be extended
to Simulink Coder for real-time simulation
purposes. Using the Simulink interface, the
solution enables you to handle high-quality
control strategies on detailed models as
well as tests on safety-related electronic
systems.
You can explore functional architectures
for vehicle dynamics control to enhance
ride comfort, handle the best compromises
and integrate new concepts. The solution
allows you to explore overlapping functions
and analysis couplings in situations in
which actuator dynamics are relevant. The
platforms open-ended architecture makes
it possible to include your models and
libraries and seamlessly run complex analyses, model reduction and real-time tests.
This solution provides you with significant
productivity gains, maximizes knowledge
and minimizes time by using reliable
libraries and advanced interfaces with
third-party technologies. You can identify
optimal configurations between vehicle,
actuators and controllers as well as predict
vehicle system responses to steering,
braking, throttling and shifting, road inputs
and wind influences.
Close the gap between the system design
process and the control design process by
bridging the system so it can be controlled
within the controller. Apply more physics to
the development of the system so you can
use your controller on a more reliable and
accurate model of the plant (system to
control) even in real time.
