Introduction
HOW DOES ACES WORK?
Air conditioning systems are usually dimensioned to cope with the extreme cooling
demands of the few hottest days of the year (plus a safety margin). However, in most
operational conditions, this maximum output is not required and the system is oversized.
So running the system continuously until the room thermostat switches it off means that
the system operates with excess capacity for most of the time.

This is where an ACES cuts in. Its sensor-driven software algorithms are designed to
detect thermodynamic saturation and to optimise the compressor accordingly. When
over capacity is detected A C E S switches the compressor off and thereby avoids
inefficient overcooling (see diagrams below).

ACES switches into saver mode, the fan keeps running and your system makes
maximum use of the stored cooling energy in the heat exchanger. Once the stored
energy is used up, the compressor can work efficiently again and is switched back on.
The set room temperature is reached without the inefficient parts of the cooling cycle.
This results in significant energy savings without real compromise in cooling comfort.

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE SAFETY AT WORK

The owner, installer and user of this ACES control unit are responsible for its correct
installation and use, and must ensure that;
a) Only qualifie d pe rsons install the unit.
b) Isolate AC equipment before installation.
c) The installation complie s with the information containe d in this publication.
d) All units must be installed in accordance with the current National Ele ctrical Code
Best Energy Saving Technology Ltd, or their agents do not assume any liability, expressed
or implied, for any consequences resulting from inappropriate, negligent or incorrect
installation, application, use or adjustment of the product or circuit design.

Prior to Installation
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE ALL UNITS MUST BE INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH
THE CURRENT NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE.
1.

Care fully re move the ACES unit from the packaging and che ck that the parts
supplie d ide ntify with the de live ry note and the purchase orde r.

2.

Check the Curre nt rating of the ACES is gre ate r than the compre ssor or the total AC
current rating.

3.

Che ck that the re are no loose parts or obje cts within the ACES unit.

4.

Che ck sufficie nt space e xists to corre ctly install the ACES.

5.

Che ck you have sufficie nt tools to corre ctly install the ACES.

The ACES is an integrated control suitable for installation in most residential and light commercial
DX (direct expansion) AC systems, e.g. wall-mounted and window units, single split systems,
packaged systems, small central air con systems and some rooftop units.
For installation with larger systems, industrial units or on different applications such as reverse
cycle air conditioning (incl. heating) or cold storage cooling, please contact us. The standard
ACES unit is not suitable for the following systems: chilled water, evaporative cooling, inverter
controlled, multi-split, digital and satellite systems.

ACES Mechanical Installation

Unless the ACES unit is fitted within the existing AC enclosure the following should be
avoided.

1.

Exposure to any he at source .

2.

The ACES e nclosure should not re strict fan output.

3.

Extreme s of te mpe rature and/or humidity be yond published limits

4.

Ide ntify a suitable location for mounting the ACES unit CLOSE to the Compre ssor
unit, avoiding are as of high tempe rature , are as whe re conde nsation or wate r
ingre ss could occur and are as whe re acce ss to the te rminals of the ACES unit are
possible . We sugge st the use of Miniature DIN rail for mounting.

5.

ACE S te mpe rature probe should be place d within the AC unit dire ctly in line with
the chilled air stre am using a cable tie.

ACES Electrical Installation

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE ALL UNITS MUST BE INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH
THE CURRENT NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE.
All necessary electrical connections for mains, earth and control wiring are provided for in
the ACES unit.
The ACES supply cable should be the same size as the existing AC unit supply cable.
Suitably rated cable of the same, or higher, rating as the existing compressor supply must
be used.
ELECTRICAL EARTH
WARNING THE ACES CONTROLLER MUST BE EARTHED. CONNECT THE EARTH
TERMINALS TO SUITABLE LOW IMPEDANCE EARTH (GROUND) AS IS REQUIRED BY THE
STATUTORY REGULATIONS COVERING THE INSTALLATION OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT.
Isolate the AC unit powe r supplie s and lock or labe l the circuit to pre ve nt inadvertent re conne ction. Se e conne ction drawing on page 8
Locate suitable connections for the mains supply from within the compressor unit, this must
not be a switched live supply, once located make those connections using the plug connector
(A) of the ACES unit.
Position the sensor in the chilled air stream (in the output head) using a cable tie, cables need
to be routed to the ACES unit (Sensor wiring can be extended up to 9M using mains rated
cables if required). Take care to route avoiding mains voltages and terminate the cables in the
connector plug of the ACES unit.
Check the wiring within the compressor unit and locate the supply cables between the
thermostat and the compressor or the thermostat and the compressor control circuit. Check
the power requirements of the compressor unit and if the load is greater than 12 amps a suitably
rated separate slave relay must be installed in line with the compressor supply.
Once the cables are located interrupt the supply and make connections to the ACES unit
Relay terminals (B) in series with the original circuit. Make those connections using the plug
connector of the ACES unit. Check that all cables are secure and not fouling any rotating parts.
Replace any covers.

The ACES unit requires no adjustment as the software will constantly cycle the compressor
according to airflow temperature and set temperature demand.
