The much anticipated opening of Nordstroms is scheduled for September 18. As


part of Cadillac Fairviews redevelopment of the former Sears premise, they will
occupy the first three floors, totaling 230,000 square feet. Below Nordstroms,
Pacific Centre opened a new wing welcoming many other fashion retailers,
including Boss, Kate Spade, AllSaints, Ted Baker, Pandora, Tumi, B2 and Weekend
Maxmara. Other notable non-fashion openings include a Microsoft retail store and
a Disney Store.
As part of Holt Renfrews plan to maintain its position as the dominant luxury
specialty retailer in Canada, their Vancouver location at Pacific Centre will soon
be growing by 30% or 40,000 square feet (Nordstrom being located around the
corner).

Recently Leased

Continuing with large format retailers arriving in Vancouver, Quebec based La


Maison Simons will open a 105,000 square foot store in the Fall of 2015 as part
of Park Royals $150,000 million renovation and expansion. La Maison Simons
products range from an extensive selection of moderately priced, private-label
products to a considerable amount of mens and womens ready to wear designer
items.
Several other major large format retailers rumoured to be exploring the Vancouver
retail landscape include Nordstroms off-price division, Nordstrom Rack and Saks
Fifth Avenue.

Retail Investment Report/Sold

With two locations secured in Toronto, rumours persist that Japanese fast fashion
retailing giant, Uniqlo, has secured or is working on securing locations in the
Lower Mainland area of Vancouver, including a downtown flagship store.
Months after closing its flagship 52,000 square foot Chapters store on Robson,
Indigo Books and Music has leased the recently shuttered 5,000 square foot
Aldo shoe store at 810/816 Granville and plan to open a much smaller format
Indigo Spirit store. This is a short term commitment with speculation that a larger
format downtown location is being pursued. Meanwhile, SportChek/Atmosphere
is currently fixturing the 52,000 square foot former Chapters for its new store.

Shaughnessy Mansions

Vancouver remains a high demand destination for luxury retailers seeking high
profile, street front locations. Swiss watchmaker Jaegar-LeCoultre, has leased
space at 1012 Alberni Street and Chinese jeweler, Lao Feng Xiang, has leased
space at 1016 Alberni Street. Both stores are expected to open shortly.
Prada will soon open at The Carlyle, 1060 Alberni Street, joining DeBeers and
Tory Burch.
745 Thurlow has landed luxury retailers Versace, Brunello Cucinelli and Strellson;
opening date announcements are expected soon.

Royal Centre
1055 West Georgia Street

Vancouvers 2nd largest building, the Trump Tower, is nearing completion. The
retail component will feature Las Vegass famed pool bar and night club, Drais, as
well as Mott 32, one of the most prized restaurants in Hong Kong. Also included
in the tenant mix is renowned Equinox Fitness along with other high end retailers
soon to be announced.
Pappas Furs

The Glowbal Group has relaunched its namesake and flagship restaurant, Glowbal,
taking 15,000 square feet in the new, mixed use and architectural landmark, Telus
Garden, constructed by Westbank Development Corp. In the same development,
The Glowbal Group has opened Nosh, a 1,600 square foot grab and go eatery,
which is open for breakfast through dinner and evening drinks. Stay tuned for
more retail tenant announcements shortly.
It has been reported that Westbank Development Corp. will be seeking approval
to redevelop the Stanley/New Fountain hotels at 27 West Cordova and 36 Blood
Alley. The proposal includes an 11 storey building with market/non market housing
above street level retail and a 15,000 square foot, below grade, music hall. The
development will be key to reinvigorating the once robust and historic retail nature
of Blood Alley.
Paragon Gamings $600 million dollar casino project next to BC Place is well under
construction. The project is called Parq Vancouver and will include a 72,000
square foot casino, two Mariott hotels, 3 restaurants, bars, retail space, a spa and
62,000 square feet of meeting, conference and special event space, boasting the
citys largest ballroom. Construction is slated for completion at the end of 2016.

Gastown is growing its reputation as the heart of independent fashion retailers,


with Aesop, Nicole Bridger, Poppy and Rye, Wardrobe Apparel and Cappelleria
Bertacchi having just opened.
Chinatown has emerged as the destination of choice for many local restaurateurs.
Recent examples include the opening of Chef/Owner Angus Ans Fat Mao at 217
East Georgia. Future openings include Juniper, overseen by veteran Chef Lee
Parsons, which is opening at The Keefer Block (Main and Keefer). Additionally,
Tannis Ling, owner of Bao Bei, is opening a new restaurant at 263 East Pender.

Pub/Restaurant for Sale


1619 West Broadway

Developed by Mayfair Properties, the retail component of Hotel Blu, The Shops at
Hotel Blu, is now fully leased. New tenants include Fanny Bay Oysters Bar, Black
& Lee Formal Wear, Black Rice Izakaya, Charels, Titanium Studios and Aquatic
Spa.
Umberto Menghis new Giardino Restaurant is open at 1328 Hornby Street. The
restaurant is within a half a block of where its predecessor operated for 37 years
before closing and making way for a new development.
Central City Brewing just opened their first full service restaurant in downtown
Vancouver called Red Racer, located at the former Dix BBQ and Brewery at 871
Beatty Street.
Viaggio, the hospitality group that owns Cibo and Uva, has just opened the upscale
Ancora Waterfront Dining and Patio. Located in the former C premise at 1600
Howe Street, the restaurant brings upscale waterfront dining to the shores of
False Creek.
