G REETINGS F ROM F R . C HUCK

This coming week the
Wardens from Emmanuel, St.
Andrews, and St. Matthews
will sign a letter of agreement
with The Rev. Lisa Busby to be
our Associate Rector.
Beginning in October
Lisa will share fully with me
and others associated in
preaching and celebrating at all
weekly, weekend and pastoral
services, as well as major
festivals. Particular care will be
given to thinking liturgically
and pastorally about the
emerging church issues for St.
Andrews, St. Matthews and
Emmanuel as we move through
this period of transition.
We have been moving

forward with this vision of

ministry and planning for the
future with the aid of Bishop
Adams and Judy Fried, who
assists parishs with matters of
clergy deployment. We are
most appreciative of Bishop
Adams for his help in bringing
Lisa into our midst to serve
alongside of us.
One of the pastoral
responsibilities that Lisa will
honor this year will involve a
ministry with the Diocese of
Central New Yorks Youth as
the Youth Coordinator. Lisa
brings many gifts and passions
for ministry as she begins a new
ministry among us.
In addition to her

passion for ministry she has a

heart for pastoral care and
supporting the life not only of our
parishs but ministry for the
Diocese of Central New York.
A part of this journey
requires our responsibility to share
our skills, gifts, and passions for
ministry as we work alongside of
Lisa and support her as she begins
a new ministry with the people of
three parishes here in Chenango
County.
I am excited about the
possibilities that await us as we
venture forward. Pray for this
new time in the lives of
Emmanuel, St. Andrews and St.
Matthews.

F ALL AND INTO G ROWTH DURING P ENTECOST

Looking out the windows the green is

beginning to disappear from the landscape. Fall
colors are appearing. But Green is the color of the
Season after Pentecost. Symbolizing growth and
harvest, it reminds us that we are growing in Gods
way as a people of faith.
Since that first empowering Spirit of God,
received by the first disciples on Pentecost, that same
Spirit blows amongst us, renewing the earth, and
hopefully, filling us with courage and care.
Through out the remainder of Pentecost we
are reminded that we, as the church, stride and strive

towards Gods vision of care for Earth and all its

creatures. God will nourish, may we grow!

Change of heart
God has nothing but the best, and
he offers it to us, weeds us,
sustains us and cares for us
through his Son. Thats the way
our hearts are changed to follow
Christ.

Cindy Thompson and Grace Franklin provided

the quiche for the September 20 church service in which
all of the members were honored. The food was
incredible and they did a wonderful job. It was very
much appreciated by everyone.
The quiche recipes will be posted on the bulletin
board in the near future.

The beauty of growing old

How beautifully leaves grow old, wrote 19th century essayist John Burroughs. How full of
light and color are their last days.
Society doesnt think highly of old age. Beauty products tout the supposed virtues of maintaining a
youthful appearance. Older adults wisdom, born of much life experience, is often disparaged, ignored or not
sought. But God says this about the righteous, whose lives are rooted in him: In old age they still produce fruit;
they are always green and full of sap, showing that the LORD is upright. (Psalm 92: 14-15, NRSV).
The aging leaves of autumn can prompt us to look for beauty in the seniors among us, to notice the light and color
that still abound. From all the fruit they still produceservice, prayer, lovemay we learn about living faithfully
until our own last days.

If indeed childhood was ever carefree, its

hardly so now. Some children face bullying, while
others deal with rough home lives. Many fret over
their performance at school and in sports. News of
dangers and tragedies makes parents want to shelter
their kids from worldly harm.
Whether real or imagined, childhood anxieties are best
confronted in the same way as adult anxieties: through prayer and
the assurance of Gods presence. Teach this traditional prayer to a
young person in your life and find comfort in it yourself:
God in heaven, hear my prayer.
Keep me in thy loving care.
Be my guide in all I do.
Bless all those who love me too. Amen.

Grace Before Meals:

Dear Lord, thank you for this
food.
Bless the hands that prepared it.
Bless it to our use and us to your
service,
And make us ever mindful of the
needs of others.
Through Christ our Lord we
pray. Amen
A Celebration of Young Talent program was held on August
30, 2015 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church. The children, and their
choir director, Roberta Rowland-Raybold, did a great job and a
wonderful time was had by all participants.

Our 2015 Clergy Conference is
just around the corner Tuesday and
Wednesday, October 6th & 7th.
The Rev. Thomas Brackett, our
Episcopal Church Missioner, will
present The People of God: Are Our Best
Days Ahead?
Fr. Brackett will help us explore the
claim, It is when our longings match or
exceed our fears of loss that we can access
the behaviors needed to say Yes!' to all
that the Spirit is birthing in our times. It
is within the practices of finding
that tipping point where fear gives
way to longing in a community, and
that is where we might discover that
our best days may, indeed, be yet
ahead of us.

Dear Families,
In our September classes on the 13 and 20, children heard stories about creation, focusing on Planet Earth,
Humanity, Sky and Mountain. The interconnectedness of Gods creation will be emphasized as we invite the children
to learn more about Gods dream for the world. During the weeks of October and November we will be exploring
stories about Jesus teachings from the gospel of Mark. One particular story will resonate with children and their
families, that of Jesus welcoming the children (Mark 10:13-16). The stories and activities of this season will help
children explore what it means to be a follower of Jesus.
Each week children will bring home a copy of the story page based on that weeks Bible reading. You can read the
story together again or you can encourage your children to tell you the story they heard that day. We will be praying
for your child during these weeks. We ask that you and your child pray for us as well as we prepare for and lead the
sessions each week. May this season after Pentecost be one of growth and discovery for your child and your family.
Blessings, Lynne Walton

A meager but meaningful donation recently made news at a church in Charlotte, North Carolina. In the
collection plate one Sunday was an envelope with 18 cents and this message: Please dont be mad. I dont have
much. Im homeless. God bless.
Pastor Patrick Hamrick was able to locate the donor to thank him in person. But the man wanted to stay
anonymous, saying the gift was between him, the church and God.
The pastor praised the donors bravery, saying, We gratefully acknowledge that this individual, out of his
poverty, has given all he had to live on. Like the widows mite in the New Testament (see Mark 12:41-44),
the 18 cents was truly a sacrificial gift.

placed in a box designated for that item.
