SECOND ROUND ADMISSION FOR DIPLOMA AND CERTIFICATE
PROGRAMMES OFFERED BY THE STATE UNIVERSITY OF ZANZIBAR FOR
THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2015/2016
Preamble
The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) invites prospective applicants to apply for
admission into Diploma and Certificate programmes tenable at SUZA for the academic
year 2015/2016. The programmes are as follows:

Diploma in Early Childhood Education (DECE)

Diploma in Arts with Education (DAED)
Diploma in Computer Science (DCSc)
Diploma in Languages with Education (DLE)
Diploma in Science with Education (DSc-ED)
Diploma in Information Technology (DIP-IT)
Diploma in Educational Leadership and Management (DELM)
Diploma in Social Work (DSW)
Diploma in Heritage Management & Tourism (DHMT)
Diploma in Library & Information Studies (DLIS)
Diploma in Inclusive and Special Needs Education (DISNE)
Diploma in Physical Education and Sport Science (DPESS)
University Qualifications Framework (UQF level 6)
Pre-Diploma in Science (Pr.DSc)
Certificate in Computing Technology (CCT)
Certificate in Librarianship & Information Studies (CLIS)

DIPLOMA IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION (DECE) - 2 years

Entry qualifications
i)
A Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with not less than
five (5) Ds or three (3) Cs.
A pass in English and experience of teaching children aged 4-5 are added
advantages.
OR

ii)

iii)

iv)

An Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with at

least two (2) subsidiaries (S) passes.
A pass in English and experience of teaching children aged 4-5 are added
advantages.
OR
Grade 3A teacher with at least one year of experience in teaching children aged 4
-5. The applicant MUST also attain a Certificate of Secondary Education
Examination (CSEE) with not less than four (4) Ds
OR
A recognized Certificate in Early Childhood Education (ECE), a certificate in
education or any related field from any recognised institution with accredited
qualification that is nationally benchmarked such as (NACTE, NECTA) with at
least a GPA of 3.0 or an average B
At least one year teaching experience in Early Childhood setting is an added
advantage.

DIPLOMA IN ARTS WITH EDUCATION (DAED) 2 years

Entry Requirements
Minimum Entry Requirements
i.

The Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (C.S.E.E) or East African

Certificate of Education (E.A.C.E) - 'O' level with three credits (C) or five simple
passes (D). At least two of these subjects should be at C grade and relate to the
combination sought for Diploma course.

ii.

Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with at least

two subsidiary passes in the relevant subjects.
OR
A recognized certificate in education or related fields by NACTE, NECTA or any
recognized higher learning institution with a GPA of at least 3.5. A student must
have at least two passes in Secondary Education Examination related to the
combinations he/she seeks.

iii.

DIPLOMA IN COMPUTER SCIENCE - (2 years)

DIPLOMA IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY- (2 years)
Entry Requirements:
i) Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with D passes in a total of
five subjects excluding religious studies. Mathematics is compulsory for computer
science applicants while English is compulsory for applicants of Diploma IT.
OR

ii) Three principal level passes grade C or above at Certificate of Secondary Education
Examination (CSEE), excluding religious studies. English or Mathematics is
compulsory. Certificate in Cisco CCNA, IT Essentials courses give more advantage.
OR
iii) Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with at least two
(2) subsidiaries in science subjects. A Pass in Mathematics for computer science is
compulsory while English is compulsory for IT applicants (at least in O-level).
OR
iv) A certificate in Computing discipline with Programming and Mathematics recognized
by NACTE, NECTA or any higher learning Institution with a GPA of at least 3.0, also
the candidate should have a pass in Mathematics or English in O-level.
DIPLOMA IN LANGUAGES WITH EDUCATION (2 years)
Entry Requirements
i) At least three credit passes at the Certificate of Secondary Education Examination
(CSEE), two of which must be in Kiswahili and English
OR
ii) A credit in Kiswahili and a D in English and two credit passes in any other subjects.
OR
iii) A credit in English and a D in Kiswahili and two credit passes in any other subjects.
OR
iv) Passes at the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE)
qualifying for at least Division Four.
OR
v) Holders of Grade III A Certificate or any recognized education certificate plus at least
four simple passes (four Ds) at O level certificate.
DIPLOMA IN SCIENCE WITH EDUCATION- (2 years)
Entry Requirements:
i) Have three credit passes, two of which should be in a combination of Science subjects in
the Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations (CSEE) or five passes in which
two credits (2Cs) passes should be in a science combination plus two or more Ds in any
other subjects.
OR
ii) Have obtained at least two Subsidiary passes at A level in science combinations.
iii) Have qualified a Grade III A Science teacher certificate with at least TWO passes in
Science subjects.
iv) Have obtained a Full Technician Certificate (FTC).

DIPLOMA IN LIBRARIANSHIP & INFORMATION STUDIES - (2 years)

Entry Requirements
i) The Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (C.S.E.E) with five Ds in all
subjects. A pass in English is compulsory.
OR
ii) Three Principal passes (Minimum grade C), A pass in English is compulsory.
OR
iii) Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with at least two
subsidiaries (S).
OR
iv) A recognized certificate in Librarianship or any other related field with a GPA of 3.0
from recognized institutions.
DIPLOMA IN EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT (DELM) (2
years)
Entry Requirements:
i)

Three (3) credits or five Ds in the Certificate of Secondary Education

Examinations in any subject together with Grade III A teaching certificate with
teaching experience of at least five years.
OR

ii)

Head teacher or assistant head teacher with Grade III A teaching certificate or above
with experience of headship or assistant headship of at least one (1) year.

iii)

Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) Or Full

Technician Certificate (FTC) with teaching experience of at least one year.
OR

iv)

Diploma in teaching with teaching experience of at least one year.

NOTE: Certificate or Diploma of a Teaching profession is compulsory.

DIPLOMA IN SOCIAL WORK.

DIPLOMA IN CULTURAL MANAGEMENT & TOURISM

Entry Requirements
i) A Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with not less than five (5)
Ds or three (3) Principal passes (C is a minimum). A pass in English is an added
advantage.
OR
ii) Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with at least two
Subsidiaries (S) passes.
OR
iii) A Certificate in the fields of Social Work, Social Welfare, Teaching, Youth Work, Rural
Development, Nursing, Community Development, Medical Assistant, Tourism, Hotel
Management, Museum, Languages, Archeology or any other related field by NACTE,
NECTA or any other recognized higher learning institution with an average GPA of at
least 3.0.

DIPLOMA IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORT SCIENCE (PESS)

Minimum entry requirements
Any interested person is eligible to apply for the PESS program if he/she meets the
following requirements:

Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with not less than five
(5) Ds or three (3) Cs. A pass in Biology is an added advantage.
OR
Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with at
least two (2) subsidiaries passes. A pass in Biology is an added advantage.
OR
A certificate in Physical Education (PE) or Sport with average B or equivalent
from any recognized institution.

Note:
i)

Medical Examination report and Physical Fitness Test (PFT) are compulsory.

ii)

A priority will be given to the applicants with PE or Sport certificates and/or

those with teaching and or sporting experience.

DIPLOMA IN INCLUSIVE AND SPECIAL NEEDS EDUCATION

Minimum entry requirements:
i)

Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with not less than

five (5) Ds or three (3) Cs.

ii)

OR
Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with at
least two (2) subsidiaries passes.

iii)

OR
Certificate of Inclusive Education with an average B with two years of
teaching experience in inclusive setting.

UNIVERSITY QUALIFICATIONS FRAMEWORK (UQF Level 6) previously PREENTRY FOR SCIENCE APPLICANTS ONLY
Entry Requirements
(i)

The applicant should possess an Advanced Certificate of

Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with at least two
subsidiaries
OR

(ii)

Holder of NTA level 5 and Professional Technician Level II

Certificate.

THREE YEARS DIPLOMA IN SCIENCE (PRE-DIPLOMA IN SCIENCE)

Entry Requirements:
i)

Have obtained at least four Ds at O Level, two of which should be in Science

subjects of combination.

ii)

Have qualified Grade III A teachers certificate with at least one pass in Science
subjects.

iii)

Have obtained Full Technician Certificate (FTC).

CERTIFICATE IN COMPUTING TECHNOLOGY

Entry Requirements:
i) Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with simple pass D in at least
four subjects, excluding Religious studies. A pass in Mathematics or English is
compulsory.
ii) Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with simple pass D in at least
two subjects, including Mathematics or English with Certificate in IT Essentials course
or CCNA. Candidates who do not have a pass in English might take a Special English
course prior to application to cover the failed English subject. Religious studies are
excluded.
CERTIFICATE IN LIBRARIANSHIP & INFORMATION STUDIES
Entry requirements:
i) Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with simple pass D in at least
four (4) subjects. English is compulsory.
OR
ii) Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with simple pass D in at least
two (2) subjects plus a certificate in Basic Librarianship at grade B and above. English
is compulsory
OR
iii) Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with simple pass D in at least
two (2) subjects plus certificate in any field from a recognized institution plus three (3)
years experience in library work.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Passes in A level are based in the following scale:A = 5, B = 4, C = 3, D = 2, E = 1, S = 0.5,

F = 0 (Before

2014)
A =5,

B+ = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, E = 0.5, F = 0 (From 2014

to Date).

Diploma programmes are of two years (four semesters) except for Pre-Diploma in
Science which covers three years (six semesters). Certificate programmes cover only
one year (two semesters).

MODE OF APPLICATION
The applicants are requested to duly fill application form through online admission; you
have to follow all steps clearly for accurate filling. Submit your duly filled form and
then print the page for reference, upon completion of filling the form, you are inquired
to submit your copy of the form with attachments of payment receipt and copies of your
academic certificates (application documents) to the Department of Academics and
Quality Assurance (DAQA); DAQA Office at Tunguu Main Campus, Nkrumah or Vuga
Campuses. Residents of Pemba can submit their application documents at SUZA Office
in the Building of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training located close to
Chake Chake Hospital in Pemba.

The applicants for all programmes are required to pay a non-refundable application fee
as follows: Tsh. 20,000/- for Diploma programmes and Tsh. 15,000/- for Certificates.

All fees are payable through the Peoples Bank of Zanzibar (PBZ) Limited, Universitys
account number 021103000490, swift code: PBZA TZ and the original bank slip to be
presented to the Bursars office SUZA for issuance of official receipt.

CLOSING DATE
The closing date for receiving application documents is Thursday 15th October, 2015.
Caution
Submission of forged certificates/testimonials or any other false information is unlawful
and will be handled according to the law.

Candidates must apply in response to the announcement.

The Universitys Admission Board has the final decision on selecting qualified
applicants.
