Microsystems

One of the ways acupuncture works is that you can use one part
of the body to treat the whole body if you know the map.

Educational background; Graduated with Masters in TCM from The

Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences. Studied various
natural healing techniques in massage therapy; trigger point therapy, Tui
Na, deep tissue, Swedish acupressure, Toru Nomikoshi Shiatsu,
reflexology, hot stone, and various energy work techniques; reiki,
thetahealing, energy matrix, qi gong, shamanism.
Vocational background; Preventive Medicine Tech in US Military, Owned
and managed Little Calistoga Day Spa, Owned and managed The
American Institute of Natural Healings, Hospital Acupuncture in chronic
pain dept.

Hobbies; Lapidary club, writing, reading, racquetball, hiking,

Comments; Also a big time tree-hugger, but not sure if it qualifies as a

hobby. Married with five children.

The ears have a map of the whole body and you can leave the
points in for a more substantial treatment.
You can use different insertions in the ear for effective treatment.
You can use ear seeds, ear tacks, ear magnets and metal inserts.
I like to use the gold metal inserts most of the time because they
seem to be the most tonifying and most effective treatment for
migraines.

Basic Pathology of Migraines

Simple diagnoses for balance method
Yang travels upward and gets stuck at the head.
Patient will have cold feet and a hot head. Yin is
too deficient to anchor the yang.

I use the gold asp inserts most of the time.

Familiar Treatment Points

The four gates
Used correctly for migraines

LI 4 balances yangming and Liv 3 balances shaoyang meridians. The

trick is to needle these points correctly.

Taiyang stays at the vertex, back of head, and

occipital area.

LI 4 must find ashi point.

Liv 3 dao ma from liv 2 toward liv 3 toward K1.

Shoayang stays in the forehead area.

Needle contralateral to migraine pain

Needle both sides if whole head affected.

Yangming stays in the face below the eyes.

What is a migraine according to different

TCM texts?

Phil and Shaes quick and effective

approach for treatment of migraines;

Textbook style acupuncture will have you

diagnose headaches according to meridian types.
The next step would be to use the standard points
associated with each headache.

Find which area of the head or meridians are affected by the

pain.

Liver qi stagnation
Gallbladder qi stagnation
Heart qi deficiency
Blood deficiency
Liver Wind

If pain persists or comes back after four treatments,

supplement with textbook points or the four gates if needed for
two more treatments.

Headaches & Migraine

Special Considerations
Common migraines

Relieve the pain with the associated balance method or

microsystem. Monitor frequency and intensity of migraines.
The migraine should fade immediately and if it comes back in
the next week it should be less frequent and less intense. In
four treatments the migraine is usually under control.

Caution

Useful techniques

For migraines that are stemming

from the eyes (they need a new
eyeglass prescription or they have a
weak ocular nerve.)

Master Tungs Four flowers found on

the bottom of the foot. (learned from
Susan Johnson who studies Master
Tung style according to Mariam Lee).

For frontal headaches or wind

induced headaches

Ba feng points (Kiiko Matsumoto)

Occipital tension.

Kidney 3,4, Liv 4.

One sided headaches or migraines.

Balance method (learned from

Richard Tan).

Always make sure you check peoples blood

pressure before a migraine treatment.
Some migraines can be caused by high blood
pressure and can cause a stroke if not treated
correctly.
Refer them to their doctors immediately if they
have very high blood pressure.
