PRESENTATION WORKSHEET 2 (ORGANIZATION)

Name: Kenneth Goh Zhong Jing

Section: 23

Please fill in the worksheet before Tutorial 17.

1. How are you
organizing your
presentation (e.g. MSP,
narrative, cause-effect,
etc.)

Motivated Sequence Pattern

Attention
Start by interacting with the audience by
asking them a question: A show of hands
how many of you are drivers?
Proceed with giving a scenario of a problem I
faced when driving: When driving a vehicle
in rainy weather, very often the driver would
request his passenger to help him wipe off
the rain on the side view mirror as the rain
droplets are hindering his vision. This
problem is due to the hydrophilic nature of
the mirror, causing them to adhere to the
mirror surface. However, with the use of the
hydrophobic coating, this problem would be
eradicated. The same circumstances may
also apply to aircraft pilots piloting a plane
in adverse conditions.
Need
High costs in de-icing / anti-icing an aircraft
Provide examples: For a mid-sized corporate
jet, if there is heavy wet snow built up, cost
of removing freezing rain would cost up to
$10,000 USD.
Fuel consumption is an airline's largest
expenses, therefore reducing fuel
consumption is a high priority for operators
Satisfaction
Introduce the nano-hydrophobic surface
coating for aircrafts
Explain how does the hydrophobic coating
works
How does it differ from other coatings
Show simulation tests and demonstrations
to illustrate the case
Visualization
Explain how does coating helps the aviation

companies: Decrease fuel consumption by

increasing aerodynamic efficiency, and
decrease costs of de-icing by lowering
amount of ice built up
State examples: A corporate airliner which
applied the surface coating on one aircraft
cited fuel savings of USD 5 million over a
year

Action
Reiterate how does the coating benefits the
companies

2. Create a storyboard for your presentation. The storyboard should be a

combination of text and visuals. The visuals can be simple symbols or doodles.
An example is below. You can see other examples on pages 168-170 in Resonate.
You can use as many boxes as you like to show your presentations organization.

Illustration shows how is the lift of the aircraft affected by icing conditions as
opposed to clean conditions. Graph shows that there is a significant decrease in
the lift, hence it is important for an aircraft to be de-iced to ensure that they are
airworthy.
Illustration of airfoil shows the build up of ice. Occurrences are more dominant in
the leading edge (the front tip) of the wing

Illustration shows the breakdown of average airline expenses. It can be seen

that the fuel and operational expenses make up a large bulk of airline expenses.
Hence, it would be imperative to keep them as low as possible.
