Position Description & Selection Criteria

Rural Catchments Officer - Rural Catchments Team


POSITION PURPOSE
The Rural Catchments Officer - Rural Catchments Team purpose is to support the Area Managers and
Team Manager within the Rural Catchments Team, assisting them to facilitate the uptake of sustainable
land management practices and promotes the sustainable use of natural resources. The Rural Catchments
Officer will provide assistance in engagement, liaison and project delivery and support.

Accountability

Reports directly to Team Manager Rural Catchments Team


Specific accountabilities and performance indicators will be set against the Strategic Plan and
annually against work plans.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist the Team Manager and Area Managers of the Rural Catchments Team, as directed with:
Engaging and supporting our community and other land managers, providing them with the
capacity, knowledge and skills to achieve ecologically sustainable outcomes
Engaging and liaising with wider stakeholders, including Federal, State and Local Government
representatives, research and other tertiary institutions, industry and industry groups, community
and NGO groups, Traditional Owners and their groups, to encourage a collaborative approach and
effective knowledge transfer in the sustainable use of natural resources
Fostering partnerships, collaborations and opportunities between our community and all
stakeholders that leverage and link investment and resources from other sources, including both
public and private funds
Facilitating targeted information and technical advice to the community and other stakeholders that
improves their access to knowledge and skills and promotes practice change
Assist the Team Manager and Area Managers of the Rural Catchments Team as directed in the
delivery, monitoring, evaluation and reporting on projects and activities on behalf of SEQC,
Government, corporate and commercial clients

Assist the Team Manager and Area Managers to support and deliver technical training that improves
the knowledge, skills and engagement of landholders and other land managers, increasing the uptake
of sustainable land management practices and promoting the sustainable use of natural resources
Liaising and working with technical experts from a diverse range of backgrounds and sectors

Other Responsibilities

Representing SEQ Catchments on local, sub-regional and regional committees, working groups and at
meetings as directed and required
Encouraging continuous improvement within the organisation
Working collaboratively within the Rural Catchments Team, with the Coastal Catchments Team and the
Regional Body Operations Team, and across the organisation
Doing whatever is reasonably practical to ensure that both the workplace and the work itself are safe, in
consultation with staff affected and the Workplace Health, Safety and Sustainability Committee.

Key Skills & Experience


A formal qualification in agriculture, natural resource management, and environment or a related
discipline, or equivalent relevant experience are required.
Knowledge and experience of regional sustainable agriculture, environment and natural resource
management issues
Ability to work within and provide support to a high level team, with multiple and conflicting priorities
Ability to develop productive relationships and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholder groups
including farmers, land managers, Landcare, catchment and other community groups, industry groups,
tertiary and research institutions, government representatives and other NGOs
Ability to deliver and report on multiple projects with conflicting priorities to achieve agreed targets and
outcomes in a timely manner.
Proven skills in written and oral communication, including the ability to convey and disseminate
technical and scientific information in an easy to understand format
Ability to develop skills in negotiation, facilitation and consultation
Ability to deliver communications advice and activities in line with the organisations guidelines and
policies, including branding, approval, corporate style guide and preferred supplier arrangements.
Good computer skills and a good understanding/working knowledge of key software (e.g. Word, Excel,
Publisher, Powerpoint, Outlook, Adobe and others)
Ability to use ArcView GIS would be beneficial
Ability to use social media and other relevant digital communication tools would be beneficial
Current Drivers Licence

Attendance at meetings outside of normal work hours may be required.
Travel throughout South East Queensland and limited over-night or inter-regional and State travel may
be required.
The position is based in Ipswich.
