I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true
meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men
are created equal." With these very important words, Martin Luther King
began drawing to a close, perhaps the most famous speech of our time;
certainly I think in my life time. When I look back over the period since my
birth in 1961 our world can claim some amazing highlights and climaxes,
critical movements for changing our world for the better as well as some evil
moments. The civil rights movement in America, one of the better ones. The
fight for equality goes on right across the globe the dream still a work in
progress as evil is overcome!
You may not know that in the same speech he also said, after quoting Isaiah
40, With this faith, we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a
stone of hope. With this faith, we will be able to transform the jangling
discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this
faith, we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together,
to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will
be free one day.
What is important to remember is that, whilst we dont live in a perfect world
and the reality harder to achieve at times, our dreams and hopes are always
a work in progress. We simply have to do the best we can with what we have
or have been given at the time, but the dream doesnt remain any less
important as a goal or a motivation simply because it is harder to bring to life.
Our dreams for a better world are what inspire us on to make those dreams
realities.
With faith in God and in each other, we pray in the words of Martin Luther
King that all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles,
Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of
the old Negro spiritual: Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are
free at last!
We pray for displaced persons everywhere that they will find a safe haven
and a place of peace, generous friends and open hearts.
In Christ,

Greg

This weekend we witness the baptism of

Bended knees
Birds go to sleep on their perches, but
they never fall off. This is because of the
tendons in the bird's legs. They are so
constructed that when the leg is bent at
the knee, the claws contract and grip like a
steel trap. The claws refuse to let go until
the knees are unbent again. The bended
knee gives the bird the ability to hold on to
his perch so tightly.

Lesson:
From sleeping birds we can learn the
secret of holding things which are most
precious to us - honesty, purity,
thoughtfulness, honour, character. That
secret is in the knee bent in prayer,
seeking to get a firmer grip on those
values which make life worth living. When
we hold firmly to God in prayer, we can
rest assured he will hold tightly to us.

because they feel they are not worthy to
do Gods work. And they are not nobody
is! But still God calls. There is enough
ministry for many more. Answer Gods call.
