Scope
Architectural Testing, Inc. was contracted by Boral Stone Products LLC to calculate the design
wind pressure requirements for Versetta Stone wall cladding products with various building
conditions and building locations.
Methods of the following reference standards are used:
2007 Florida Building Code (includes 2009 Supplement). International Code Council, Inc.,
2008.
2009 International Building Code. International Code Council, Inc., 2009.
ASCE 7-05 Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures. American Society of
Civil Engineers, 2005.
Criteria
Design wind pressures for components and cladding are calculated assuming the following criteria:
Building Category:
Building Importance:
Topographical Factor:
Wind Directionality:
Building Envelope:
II
I = 1.00
Kzt = 1.00
Kd = 1.00
Enclosed
The design wind pressures for components and cladding are determined for these criteria and the
following variables:
Basic Wind Speed:
Building Roof Height:
Component Area:
Building Exposure:
V = 90, 100, 110, 120, 130 140, 146 and 150 MPH
h = 15', 30' and 45'
A = 2.1 ft2 (8-1/2" x 36" panel)

Calculations
Calculations of component positive and negative pressures use the spreadsheet format presented on
page 3. The spreadsheet is executed for each combination of the variables presented above. Results
are grouped by basic wind speed and presented in the tables on page 4 through page 6. The
elevation of the product is assumed to be at or less than the building height shown in the tables. For
intermediate building heights not shown in the table, use the design pressure for the next higher
elevation or interpolate.
The calculated design pressures are then compared to the design pressure capacities for various
anchorages established by Architectural Testing report 99242.06-122-34. If a calculated design
pressure capacity is greater than the calculated design pressure for a particular installation, the
installation is deemed acceptable. Summary tables are presented on page 8 through page 15.

Definitions
Building Category: Refers to the Building Occupancy (i.e. intended use) and the relative hazard
for occupants. Building Category I represents a low hazard such as minor storage facilities or
agricultural buildings. Building Category III represents a high hazard for occupants and is generally
designated for larger institutional buildings, larger day care facilities and similar buildings.
Building Category IV is for essential facilities such as hospitals or high hazard facilities such as
chemical processing plants. Building Category II, assumed for this analysis, includes those
buildings designated not at Building Category I, Building Category III or Building Category IV and
represents most residential, commercial, industrial and institutional buildings. See ASCE 7-05
Table 1-1 for more information.
Building Importance: A factor applied to calculation of the basic wind pressure based on Building
Category. For Building Category II, assumed for this analysis, a Building Importance factor of 1.00
is applied.
Building Exposure: A category based on ground surface roughness in the vicinity of the subject
building that defines factors to be applied to the calculation of the basic wind pressure. This
analysis considers the following two ground surface roughness categories.
Exposure B: Urban and suburban areas with closely spaced obstructions.
Exposure C: Open terrain such as grasslands and all water surfaces in hurricane prone regions.
Topographical Factor: A factor applied to the calculation of the basic wind pressure based on the
geometry and relative location of hills, escarpments or cliffs that may affect the basic wind speed
experienced by the subject building. For this analysis, a Topographical Factor of 1.00 (i.e. no
influence from hills, escarpments or cliffs) is utilized.
Wind Directionality Factor: A factor applied to the calculation of the basic wind pressure to
account for eventual combination of the design wind pressure with other building loads. Because
vertical glazing, in general, is not influenced by other building loads (i.e. snow load, soil load, flood
load, earthquake load or ice load), a wind directionality factor of 1.00 is appropriate.
