CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION

10
Intranet is a word often used to describe a private system of communication
between computers within a corporation. The essence of such a system is that it
uses Internet technology and protocols to effect communications between internal
clients via an internal server. The server also often acts as a common central source
of information and software resources.
Many Intranets are located within a local area network and cut off completely from
the Internet. Others have portals to other networks and even to the Internet. These
more extensive Intranet systems are described as having a wide area network.
An Intranet-based system with methods for co-active information delivery is
described. The system allows users to manage the distribution and delivery of
information across an enterprise Intranet, the Internet, and common communication
channels (e.g., printers, fax, pager and e-mail). The system provides a wizard-like
user interface which intuitively walks users through various tasks, including
distribution of new documents, updating of existing documents, modifying
profiles/policies of documents, groups, roles and individuals. The intranet is based on
a pc WAN with Windows NT Server, Microsoft SQL Server, and internet information
server.
1.2 Main Theme
C# allows you to separate HTML code from scripted elements; you will
notice a significant decrease in development time on many projects. In
many instances, you will be able to separate the coding stage of a project
from the design and build stages. Not only can this make life easier for
you as a programmer, but it also can remove obstacles that stand in the
way of effective and flexible design.

1.3 Scope of the software

Karakoram International University is initially to establish a intranet base
system. In this system faculty and senior students will access Resources to
view, read and download their books, articles and research activities. Presently
there is no electronic system which will facilitate the users of intranet base
system. I submit the proposal to code an intranet base system which will help
the users to access their relevant material and it also helps the staff to disburse
the Resource to the users.
The intranet base system in KIU library has to perform the following functions.

11
 Student signin
 Student signup
 Read Resource(books, research papers, articles)
 Download Resource
 Edit and delete Resource
 View all Resource

12
CHAPTER 2
EXISTING SYSTEM

EXISTING SYSTEM
There is no electronic library management system. In the existing system, resources are
download from internat by using yahoo, goolge, answer. Com and many other web
sites.pepole have there own E.resources like cd’s hard disks and USB etc.

13
Problem Definition
According to the above system there are many difficulties which are as following.
Nature of the problem
 No data repository of electronic resources.
 Dependent on internet to access the resources.
 Electronic resources management is not available.
 It can not fully facilitate the faculty and student to accessing their resources.
 Time is big factor current existing system.
Draw backs of the existing system
All the student and faculty members are accessing their resources through .but the
problem is that if the internet is disconnecting then there is a problem for students to to
access data through internet.

PROPOSED SYSTEM

3.1 PROPOSED SYSTEM

The proposed is an important phase of the software development. For developing a

complete system and the most important phase in the planning is the proposed system. It
is probably the most important for the entire software development process. It defines how

15
and what is the purpose of the project, such as how much the cost, that will be delivered,
what will the priorities are and when the project will be completed.
The thorough analysis of the present system made it necessary to remove all the
shortcomings of existed in the system. Intranet base system means to change it from
internet base system to Intranet base system and to automate the data and provide
efficiency, accuracy and timeless security. An intranet based system is the tool, which can
help the management to exercise an effective and timely decision-making.
The proposed system will be a Intranet based system .All the important data will be
properly organized and stored, and will be processed for required out put to provide timely
information.
The proposed system will perform all activities described in the present system and will
provide necessary accuracy and efficiency. The scope of the system is to provide up-to-
date, consistent and reliable information.
The new system has been designed after analyzing the present system. It is more efficient,
fast and accurate, because the proposed system is fully intranet base and it student and
employee are access there resources easily.

3.2 OBJECTIVES OF PROPOSED SYSTEM

There are a number of ways to determine the system objectives. The elementary approach towards
the objectives is to start with the existing information structure later on modify it to rectify known
deficiencies. So keeping this view, the requirements are converted into well-defined objectives that
are to be satisfied by the proposed system. After analyzing the existing methods and procedures
the following are laid.

• Efficiency and Effectiveness

As compared to old system, which is DOS Mod and some difficulties in using and accessing
and not prepare properly all reports? The intranet base system is time effective? Data entry
is much faster because there is no need to enter large names and lengthy detail all the times
while preparing the reports. This makes the proposed system much faster for insertion,
updating and deflation. This reduces any chance of error by use.
The new information system provides high level graphics, easy to understandable, more
flexible, comfortable searching facilities, easy to operate.

• Efficiency

16
When we construct the computerized system from DOS Mode to Windows Mode data entry is
much faster because no need to do a large processing it is available to facility in GUI face.
This makes the proposed system too fast for insertion, updating and deleting.

• System Accuracy
The proposed system has a high degree of correctness and produce reliable results. The
outputs are sufficiently pressed for the designer purpose and there is no chance of entering
the wrong data because many consistencies, checks are provided.

• Data Security and Integrity

The proposed system provides high security and integrity of the data restricting the use of
data to authorized persons only. This security feature also takes care of integrity problems
and ensures that data being updated by authorized person.

• Handling of Errors
As the data that is being inserted of deleted or retrieved should be correct and give an error
free manipulation, hence in the system there will be proper handling of human error (e.g.
invalid data entry, type mismatched etc.).

• Rapid Searching and Retrieval

As one of the most important objective of the proposed system, querying facility will
be implemented such that at any time system would be ready to answer any
question raised by user like the searching of every fields, codes, decision dates etc.

3.3 MAIN FEATURES OF THE PROPOSED SYSTEM

It is necessary to relate the expected benefits from the proposed system i.e. how we prefer the
computerized system for the old manual system i.e. proposed system can eliminate the most
crucial problem. In this regard the plus points of the proposed system more precisely explained
here.

• Private, secure communications between users and librarians.

• “Push” technologies allowing librarians to send Web pages directly to users’ desktops.
• Customization of the software.
• Statistical reports.
• Secure protected access to session transcripts and patron information.
• The E-System will Provide facilities Save, View, coping Search browsing ,printing etc

17
• The proposed system is in the form of a computerized database that allows the system to be
queried in as many different ways as required giving the accurate. Answer in a flash of time.
• The procedure of making an appointment can be highly simplified and made faster thus
making it efficient.
• There can be efficient storage space management since a lot of record can be store
compactly with computers.
• Data misplacement chances can be increased by the password facility that does not been
assigned a login name and password to the system would be able to access it.

3.4 Scope and Objectives of the Proposed System

• Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration and sharing of perspectives.
• Help faculty bring innovative concepts to reality.
• Foster student’s creativity and broaden their experience and information base.
• Assist faculty in enhancing course content and in exploring teaching techniques.
