GALVANIZED

PROPERTIES OF GALVANIZED
Galvanized zinc coating is a process in sheet steel
that is not easily corroded steel. Galvanized liquid
composition consists of 97% Zinc / zinc and aluminum
remaining +/- 1% other materials up to 100%. Zinc is an
important role here in protecting steel sheet of pollutants
that can cause rust on the steel sheet. Zinc contained in a
layer that will sacrifice themselves so consumed by
pollutants such until exhausted and rust on the new
process started. There are several cases occur pinggirian
rust on steel sheet undergoing the process of cutting, it is
common, but do not worry rust will not directly attack
into sheet steel plate protected by a layer Galvanized
due. The coating process itself can be done in many
ways, such as by electrical current delivery system known

as Electro galvanize, or plain dyeing known as Hot-dipped

galvanize. Galvanized dyeing process itself can be
divided into two, namely:
1. The conventional dyeing process, namely steel
(usually the finished product) in dip into the liquid tin.
2. The dyeing process is continuous hot-dipped
galvanizing steel is dipped into the liquid in the tin that
continues over time without interruption.
Steel plates in the dye is rolled steel plate / coil so
that at the end of the machine there are dip galvanized
tool called Incoiler and recoiler.

CHARACTERISTIC OF GALVANIZED
Like all other corrosion protection systems, galvanizing
protects steel by acting as a barrier between steel and
the atmosphere. However zinc is a more electronegative
metal in comparison to steel, this is a unique
characteristic for galvanizing which means that when a
galvanized coating is damaged and steel is exposed to
the atmosphere, zinc can continue to protect steel
through galvanic corrosion (often within an annulus of 5
mm above which electron transfer rate decreases).
Galvanized steel can be welded; however, one must
exercise caution around the resulting toxic zinc fumes.
Galvanized steel is suitable for high-temperature
applications of up to 392 F (200 C). The use of
galvanized steel at temperatures above this will result in

peeling of the zinc at the inter metallic layer.

Electrogalvanized sheet steel is often used in automotive
manufacturing to enhance the corrosion performance of
exterior body panels; this is, however, a completely
different process which tends to achieve lower coating
thicknesses of zinc.
