Administrative Intern Opportunity

Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority - Systemwide Planning

Metro Interns within the Systemwide Planning Department will have the opportunity to work on multimodal transportation planning and policy analysis projects. They will be given the opportunity to
contribute ideas and utilize their skills towards improving mobility for Los Angeles County. This
opportunity will provide entry level experience for someone who wants to make a career in transportation
planning and urban design.
Position Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will provide support to planning staff and project managers on: the review of
corridor project station design drawings/specifications, conducting technical research assignments,
coordinating project resolution among internal agency departments, and other related departmental work.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of current issues and trends related to urban and transportation planning
Familiarity with urban design principles as they relate to transit station area planning
Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as critical analytical skills
Ability to work independently and complete assignments that involve researching, quantitative
analysis, and synthesizing information into written summaries, reports, or recommendations
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Understanding of design programs including Adobe Suite recommended but not required
Hourly Salary: Undergraduate: $12.50, Graduate: $15.00
Location: One Gateway Plaza, Los Angeles, CA
Availability: Interns shall be available to work at least 15-25 hours per week during regular business
hours.
Eligibility:
To qualify for the Metro Internship Program, applications must meet the following criteria:
Officially be enrolled in an accredited institution of higher learning with a minimum of 12 units for
an undergraduate program or a minimum of 6 units for a graduate program.
Must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 for those enrolled in an undergraduate program or
maintain a 3.0 for those enrolled in a graduate program.
Must be a U.S. citizen or a legal resident and eligible to work in this country as determined by the
U.S. Immigration Laws and the Department of Homeland Security.
Terms and Conditions:
The program does not guarantee full time employment with the agency.
Metro does not provide benefits, vacation pay, holiday pay or overtime pay for interns.
All interns must adhere to Metro's dress code and observe all safety rules and regulations.
All prospective interns are subject to Metro's pre-employment screenings and subject to a
criminal background check.
