Uni-Cast II Transformers
Schneider Electric is a recognized market
leader, offering a full range of distinctively
Square D-designed transformer products such
as the Uni-Cast II transformer. Like all of our
transformers, it is manufactured in ISO-registered facilities that use the industrys leading
manufacturing technology, ensuring products
of the highest quality and performance.
At Schneider Electric, we are committed to

UNPARALLELED
RELIABILITY
FOR CLEAN
ENVIRONMENTS

excellence. Our Uni-Cast II transformers are

built and tested to stringent Square D brand
specifications, and meet or exceed applicable
ANSI/IEEE, CSA and NEMA standards. These
transformers may be UL, cUL or FM labeled
upon request.

Medium-Voltage, Cast-Coil Design

Uni-Cast II is a medium-voltage, cast-coil,
world-class distribution transformer. Cast-coil
transformers are designed to meet the demands
of higher operating voltage systems and extreme
environments. In fact, no other transformers
come close to the performance of Square D
premium cast-coil designs for severe operating
conditions where efficiency and dependability
are crucial.

Ultimate Reliability
Uni-Cast II cast-epoxy unit substation-type
transformers are particularly suited for applications requiring a dry-type transformer with
superior performance characteristics. These
transformers provide the rugged durability
needed for harsh environments where chemical
fumes, dust or vibration may be present.

Superior Design
The Uni-Cast II construction features LV coils
hermetically sealed in epoxy. They are wound
with epoxy pre-impregnated insulation. After
the coils are completed, they are baked to dry
the moisture from the windings and cure the
epoxy pre-impregnated insulation. This curing
process binds the coils together to form solid
winding blocks. The ends of the coils are then
sealed with epoxy for added protection.
The high-voltage coils are cast in epoxy in a
mold, using computer-controlled mixing and
casting process that ensures the absence of
voids. The epoxy used in the casting process is
mineral-filled epoxy that is UL-approved. The
mineral-filled epoxy has been proven to
enhance pure epoxy, increasing its thermal conductivity, mechanical strength, arc resistance
and adhesion to the conductor, as well as
changing its coefficient of thermal expansion to
be closer to that of the conductor material. The
windings are also fiberglasss reinforced to provide additional mechanical strength.

The core is manufactured from high permeability, cold-rolled, grain-oriented, silicon steel,
utilizing a step-lap mitered core construction to
ensure optimum performance and minimal
sound levels. Magnetic flux densities are kept
well below the saturation point.

Applications
Offered with round and oval core and coils,
Uni-Cast II transformers provide the utmost
space-saving design. With superior dielectric
capabilities, Uni-Cast II transformers are the
transformers of choice for extreme applications
requiring the ultimate in reliability. Costefficient, they also offer quick installations, low
operating costs and minimal maintenance.

Environmental Information
While intended for relatively clean environments, the Uni-Cast II transformer is also
reliable in harsher environments.
Using no fluids, the Uni-Cast II transformer
poses no risk of fire or explosion. It is also
moisture-proof and chemical-resistant. Its solid
insulation system is partial discharge-free (less
than 20PC @ 120% operating voltage). The
transformer also requires no special waste
disposal considerations.
When long-term dependability is a must, UniCast II transformers are ideal, serving as excellent replacements for PCB-filled transformers.
