International Award on

Appropriate Technologies for sustainable development

in any South of the World

RULES and REGULATION

Art. 1 Competition Topic
The International Thesis Award Premio Tattarillo (in the following Tattarillo award) for Bachelor,
MS and PhD theses is organised by Ingegneria Senza Frontiere Firenze ONLUS (Engineering
without Borders Florence, in the following ISF) in collaboration with Assessorato dellAmbiente
del Comune di Firenze (Environmental Councillor of the Municipality of Florence) in the memory of
Tommaso Fiorentino: friend and fellow in Environmental Engineering at the University of Florence
who tragically passed away in November 2003.
The objective of the award is to facilitate the exchange of experience and ideas in the field of
Appropriate Technology among students and professors of the international academia community.
In particular, South of the World indicates all the realities where human development and access
to resources is limited by whatever cause, without considering neither the geographic location nor
the reason of such limitations (historical, political, economical or natural).
Tattarillo award aims to deepen and circulate the concept of Appropriate Technology as an
instrument for sustainable human development in poor areas. The award is intended to recognize
outstanding work by promising young students and researchers in the field.
Tattarillo Award will assign 3 prises of 1000 each. The prises will be awarded by a jury
appointed by the ISF board. The jury members will be composed by members of Italian academia
and recognized experts in the field of the submitted theses. The jury will be appointed after the
