Cheshire Academies Trust 11by11 Entitlement

On Tuesday 01 September the teaching and learning teams, support teams and governors from Mill View,
Boughton Heath and Kelsall met together to finalise the 11 by 11 experiences we wished our children to be
entitled to across Cheshire Academies Trust. Pupils views, parental views, staff views and governors views
were taken into account when the teams agreed their final 11 by 11 experiences. Thank you to everyone
who contributed their views.
The 11 experiences each child will be entitled to during their time in one of the Trust schools are
1. Visit London
2. Learn to swim and water safety
3. Camp under stars, cook on a fire and look at the stars
4. Learn First Aid
5. Do something for charity
6. Plant it, Grow it, Eat it.
7. Learn the basics of cooking
8. Perform on stage
9. Play a Musical Instrument
10. See the sea
11. Learn to ride a bike and be aware of road safety
At Mill View our Year 6 children will be sharing these 11 experiences with the other pupils and seeking their
views about what each experience means to them. The Year 6 class will then be tasked in representing
these visually into a textile piece of artwork. The PTA has kindly agreed to fund the art workshops with the
artist Julie Mitchell on 21 October, 04 and 11 November thank you! If you are able to assist on one or
more of these dates please contact the school office.
Friday 25 September 11am 12pm Upton Pre-School (located next to Mill View) will be holding a
coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. All welcome.

invited to be part of this meeting.

British Values
As we begin a new school year everyone at
Mill View is concentrating on the value of
Friendship. Mr Gilbert and Mrs Telford
introduced the new value of the month for
September in assembly with Bruno Mars
song Count on Me. They went on to look at
famous quotes about friendship to consider
and reflect on. Our challenge is to be the
best friends that we can be to one another.
We will be exploring this value further in our September assemblies and in our
classes.
Prevent Duty
Schools are now subject to a duty under section 26 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015,
in the exercise of their functions, to have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into
terrorism. The Prevent duty applies to a wide range of public-facing bodies, including schools, and forms
part of the governments Counter Terrorism strategy. The aim of Prevent is to stop people
becoming or supporting terrorists, by challenging the spread of terrorist ideology and supporting vulnerable
individuals.
Mill View seeks to protect children and young people against the messages of all violent extremism. We
recognise that safeguarding against radicalisation and extremism is no different from safeguarding against
any other vulnerability. Staff will receive training through an upcoming PDM to support them in their
Prevent duties. Further information on radicalisation and extremism and schools responsibilities within the
Prevent duty can be found in our safeguarding policy.
Department for Education - Extremism Helpline
The DfE has recently launched a helpline for anyone concerned about a child who may be at risk of
extremism, or about extremism within an organisation working with children and young people.
Email: counter.extremism@education.gsi.gov.uk.

Sport Partnerships

One of the proudest moments for many children is the opportunity to represent their school and
take part in competitions against other schools. At Mill View we are a member of Chester Schools
Sports Partnership who provide support for delivering quality PE teaching and arranging a number
of inter school competitions. This year we will hopefully have the opportunity for Key Stage 2
children to take part in a number of sports and competitions against other local schools. These
competitions include a cross country league, athletics tournament, hi-5 netball, football,
gymnastics, cricket, orienteering, tennis and golf. There may also be some opportunities for Key
Stage 1 children too. We look forward to a fun and successful sporting year this year. If you would
like any information about these events or are interested in helping out with coaching, please
contact Mr Ford.
