Core Objectives:
College and career readiness.
Conventions of Standard English:
Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization,
Punctuation and spelling when writing and follow set format.
Learning Objective/Outcome: Upon completion, students will be able to write a resume
showing their skills, experiences and education that they can use when applying for a job
a scholarship or college. Follow up with covering letter time permitting.

Lesson Outline
Day 1
(10 min) Introduction
Introduce topic
Have students introduce themselves & say what fields they are working in
or are looking to work in.
Ask them If they have applied for a job using a resume.
Ask them if they know how a resume looks like and what would be the
typical headings in a resume like work experience, qualifications etc.
(20 min) sample resumes the good , the bad , the ugly
o Get students to sit in groups of 2 or 3 and hand out the
DAY 2
20 min review of homework and filled out resume template.
Have students correct their peers resumes and go over concept checking
Give out the rubric (attached) so that students can rate the performance of their
peers.
Put out another sample resume (preferably your own) and have students compare
theirs and yours.
30 min rough draft of resume
Students work independently and write out a resume using the standardized
format but not looking at the template (checking understanding and memory)
Teacher walk around helping and correcting
Once finished students are asked to peer correct
Students are taken to the computer lab where they will type out the completed and
corrected resume from the previous activity
Teacher will ensure that correct font, format, spacing etc is maintained
They will save their work on with their name as the document name and leave it
on the desktop for the teacher to print and correct later.
