Sample SOPs for B-Schools

Important: The last date for FMS application is 10th November. FMS asks the applicant to write an SOP
of at least 150 words. To help the aspirants, we are attaching 10 sample SOPs of those students who
made it to FMS. I would suggest the applicants not to copy the content as it is but to take the samples as
a model of language and content, and with the help of it write their own SOPs.

Sample SOP 1
My long-term goal in life is to be a successful entrepreneur, to achieve this long-term goal I have set a
number of short-term goals, and studying at FMS is one such short-term goal. My family business is
driven by the traditional methods, applying modern management principles will help the business
grow, diversify and prosper. A management degree from a reputed institute like FMS will help me hone
my business skills and sharpen my business acumen. The fundamentals of economics, finance, and man
management are indispensable to any business; a management degree from FMS will help me imbibe
these fundamentals. Apart from the curriculum, the alumni network of FMS will always be of immense
help for any budding entrepreneur.
Sample SOP 2
After completing one year in my organisation, I found that most of the managers (think of other terms like
lead, PM, etc) who are the key decision makers in the organisation have an MBA degree from a reputed Bschool. Now, after having worked for almost three years I have acquired most of the technical skills for my
domain (describe the domain). An MBA from a reputed organisation like FMS will not only help me in
acquiring management skills but will also make me aware of the other factors that determine the growth
of an organization. Key concepts of economics, finance and operations will provide a bird's eye view of the
microcosm of business. FMS with its strong pedagogy and a comprehensive programme designed for
working executives will provide me the perfect platform to achieve my career aspirations.
Sample SOP 3
I work as a systems engineer at Infosys in the Business Intelligence stream. My work has helped me
understand the importance of leveraging technology to make business decisions. Meeting strict deadlines,
adapting to iterative requirement changes and coordinating with different teams has instilled in me the
confidence to handle stressful situations with professionalism. I have been appreciated by my peers and
managers alike for my ability to handle responsibilities across roles and for my solution driven analytic
approach to problems. I have been both a team player and a team leader. These experiences have
strengthened my desire, which developed while organizing events in college and at work, to pursue a
career in management. An MBA (or simply put business education) from a premier institute like FMS with
qualified and experienced faculty, excellent industry exposure and a diverse peer group will help me
combine my innate abilities and industry experience with business knowledge to boost my professional
growth.

I have done my graduation in Bioinformatics. During my college years, apart from honing my analytical
skills, I developed a strong penchant for solving practical problems and managing people .Also,
successfully running a technical society of my department in the capacity of Executive Committee member
gave me an insight into the complexities of managing a team and strengthened my belief in my
capabilities as a manager. After joining CTS and interacting with senior leadership, clients from different
parts of the world, I am convinced that to be a good manager in todays dynamic environment, a holistic
perspective about various facets of a business is a must. All these learnings along with a formal education
in management from a prestigious institution like FMS with its excellent faculty, high level of industry
interaction and an eclectic peer group will contribute to my growth and help me in my goal, which is to
become self-made entrepreneur.

In todays rapidly evolving world, organizations which can restructure (themselves) to meet modern
challenges can grow immensely. Working in current organization, I realized that having a
good analytic and logical background and ability to understand business needs equips you to make the
right decisions. Having good communication and inter-personal skills, I want to pursue my MBA in HR. In
college I was the grievance officer where I had to constantly interact with the students and faculty to
create an amiable environment. Even at work I took up many initiatives to foster better relationships
within my unit. I believe that the MBA program from FMS, with its academic excellence and acclaimed
faculty which believes in building concrete foundations and practical application, will provide me with
invaluable skills. I hope to realize my dream of creating a workplace which recognizes its talented

Sample SOP 6
I have close to three and half years of experience in the IT service industry. As a software Engineer, I
relish the challenging environment wherein I am able to showcase my analytical and logical abilities by
identifying solutions to intricate problems at hand. My aspirations go further with the desire to work for
and build brands. I believe I would be well suited for a career in marketing. As a step to pursue this
passion, I also worked as a marketing intern at SheepStop.com. This gave me an exposure to fields such
as social media marketing, Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR), marketing strategies and creativity. A
management education from Faculty of Management Studies with its strong industry linkages,

Business Analytics/ IT consultancy is my carrier destination. Having worked for more than 3 years as a
project lead in the IT sector, I now want to take on greater higher and critical responsibilities. For that I
must have a comprehensive understanding of the business fundamentals that govern any business.

for a few years, and then, as a social responsibility, adopt the teaching profession. To realize my dream, I

I aspire to become a social entrepreneur in the field of education. I want to provide quality education to
the underprivileged children of this country. Many children drop out of school and many dont go
for higher education as they dont see any merit in studying. This is primarily because of poor teaching
methods and lack of quality teachers. The current education system will do no good to these children. If
India needs to reap the benefits of its demographic dividend then providing quality education is necessary.
Doing an MBA will hone managerial skills required to achieve my goal. One of the advantages of doing
