Introduction
ThisblogpostappliestoFTSinARSystemServerversions7.6.04,8.0and8.1only.
FullTextreindexingcantakeaverylongtime,severaldaysinsomecases.Wesuspectthattoomuchdataisbeing
reindexedandit'slikelythatsomedataisindexedthatwon'tevenbesearchedfor.Also,forgeneralFTSproblems
suchasaFullTextreindexnotcompletingorproblemswiththeIndexitself,thesestepsmayhelp.Thesestepswill
bringFTStoaknowngoodstatewithlatestfixes.
Itcomprisesof3steps,whichare:
Step1FortifyingtheformsforFTSSettings
Step2ConfiguringforPerformanceinaServerGroup
Step3ApplyingtheRelevantHotfixBundles
Allstepswithincanbeperformedonthefollowingminimumversions7.6.04SP2,8.0patch3and8.1baseversion.

Step1FortifyingtheformsforFTSSettings
UsetheApplyFTS_bundle.zipfile(attachedtothisblogpost)tomakechangestotheforms.
RunningthisutilitywillremoveallunwantedFTSandMFSindexesfromallformsandfields(detailedinthe
referencedcsvfiles).
FollowthedetailedstepsintheFTSFortificationJavaCommandsWorddocalsoattached.
ReviewthenotesundereachoftheJavacommandsandalsoreviewtheoutputfilesafteryouexecuteeachofthe
Javacommandstoverifythatthechangesyouremakingaresuccessful.
IfyouneedtomanuallyremovesomeFTSsettingstofieldsinforms,thereareadditionalstepsinAppendixAofthe
Worddocthatdetailhowtodothis.
NOTE:IsimportanttoDisabletheFTSIndexerandDisableFTSSearchingbeforeyoustart.Changingthe
formswillputrowsintotheft_pendingtabletomarksomeoftherecordsfordeletion,whichcouldtakealong
timetocompleteinsomecases.

Youwillneedtoraiseasupportissueforthisandthefileswillbeplacedontheftpsiteforyou.
Whenraisingthesupportissue,includethelinktothisblogpostorreferenceKA395757 .
NOTE:ForaServerGroupenvironmentyoullneedtocopytheARServerhotfixtoeachserverinthegroup.If
youhavefollowedthedocumentationforConfiguringFTSforPerformanceinServerGroupyouwillneedto
copytheFTSJavaPluginhotfixtoboththePrimaryandSecondaryplugindirectories.
AftergatheringtheHotfixbundles,reviewtheREADMEfileswithinthezipfortheinstructionsonhowto
implementthehotfixes.
Inmostcases,itwillsimplybeacaseofreplacingtheoldfilewiththenewfileremembertostoptheRemedyserver
priortodoingthis,andalwaystakeabackupofthefilesthatyouarereplacing.

FormetheissuewasthatIwasusingthewrongversionoftheutility.Weareon8.1.00but,
incontradictiontothefilename,weneededtouseApplyFTS_Bundle_8.1.01_or_Later.zip.It
wasexplainedbysupportthatthisisbecuaseofthegranularoverlaysintroducedin8.1.00
whichonlythelaterversionoftheutilitycanhandle.
