INTRODUCTION

Information resources may vary from a speech to a magazine; from cinema to


web sixties; from mere thoughts to social media; from books to newspapers etc.
they may be primary sources, secondary sources, and tertiary sources and so on.
There are many school of thoughts about ideas on the types of information
sources. There is more information available now than in the history of humanity.
And this was made possible, thanks to the advent of internet and the recent boom
in television broadcasting. Even a small thought in some remote corner of the
universe has become ideas to millions in the matter of hours. The Enormity and
pace it has acquired is more than can imagine. The challenges then becomes is
finding the right information to meet our needs.

Types of resources
Now a-days, there are different types of resources available;

PRINT MEDIA
1. Books: A book is a set of written, printed, illustrated, or blank sheets, made
of ink, paper, parchment or other materials, usually fastened together to
hinge at one side. a single sheet within a book is called a leaf and each
side of leaf is called a page books. It may also refer to works of literature or
a main division of such a work. In liberay and information science, a book is
called a monograph, to distinguish it from serial periodicals such as,
magazines, journals, or news papers. books provide in depth coverage a
subject and are a great resources for students. They are not as current as
journal articles, but like journal they provide citation and bibliographic which
can be used to identity other resources. It can provide broad over views of
an event. It cant be intended for a board audience depending on the book,
ranging from scholars to general audience .Its content level can range from
general public to expert. Its content level can range from general public to
expert .books are always dependent on authors

2. Magazines: Magazines are of two types. They are popular magazines and
professional or trade magazines.
Popular or special interest magazine : Popular magazines contain articles
written by journalists and are geared towards a general audience. Unlike
academic journals they do not go through a peer review process and rarely
contain bibliographic citations. It is contained in long from stories weekly
magazines begin to discuss the impact of and event on society, culture and
public policy. It can include detailed analysis. It offers perspectives of an
event from particular groups or geared towards specific non professional
groups.

Eg: News week, time ebony, good housekeeping and people.

Professional or trade magazines: Professional magazines are specialized


information related to a particular discipline or profession. It is contained in
long form articles or reports. It may provide context and analysis of an
event as it relate to a specific interest group. It is intended for a professional
organizations or groups with similar interests. Article length can vary
between short, easy to understand to lengthily and high specific. Its source
are not always cited
Eg: Variety , info world, restaurant report, chronicle of higher education and
health.

3. Journals : Journals are often theoretical, carefully, analyzing the impact of


an event on society, culture and public policy and are usually peer
reviewed. It is intended for other scholars, researchers professional and
university students in the field. Terminology and depth of article may be
difficult to understand by novices. here, articles was written by experts.
Always, it includes in depth information. It includes full documentation of
sources. A journal is a publication that is published in a particular format
and is issued at fixed intervals. Academics, scholars, researchers and other
experts in the field often publish in academic , otherwise known as scholarly
journals. Academic journal tend to focus on a specific area or discipline and
are published more frequently than books.
4. Newspaper : News peppers may included statists, photograph and editorial
coverage. It is intended for general audience. Beginning

sours of local and regional news and current events. Often contained
editorials, classified advertisement, sports scores and entertainment
information. It was written by journalists. Audience is the general public.

MASS MEDIA
Mass media are diversified media technologies that are intended to reach a

large audience by mass communication. The technologies through which this


communication takes place varies. Brodcast media such as radio, recorded
music, film and television transmit their information electronically .print media use
a physical object such as a newspaper, book, pamphlet or comics, to distribute
their information. Outdoor media is a form of mass media that comprises
billboards, sign or placards placed inside and outside of commercial buildings,
sports stadiums, shop and buses. Other outdoor media include flying billboards
( sign in tow of airplanes), blimps, and skywriting. Public speaking and event
organizing can also be considered as forms of mass communication. Internet
media provides many mass media services, such as email, websites, blogs, and
internet based radio and television . Many other mass media outlets have a
presence on the web, by such things as having TV ads that linkl to a website, or
distributing a QR code in print or outdoor media to direct a mobile user to a
website. In this way, they can utilize the easy accessibility that the internet has,
and the outreach that internet affords, as information can easily be broadcast to
many different regions of the world simultaneously and cost- efficiently.

the world that are linked together in a net work that allows people to exchange
information. There are entire books, scholarly journal articles, magazine
articles, newspaper articles, video, feature length movies, music games, soft
ware can downloaded, self help, shopping, gambling, sports scores,
opportunities to interact with other using e-mail, chat and live voice and video
and lot of information in the internet. It provides more recent, up to-date
information, including up to the minute updates. For example, reporters can sit
in criminal and civil trials and post blog entries about the trial as it is actually
taking place. It is primarily provided through resources like internet news sites
when related to a specific event. It is intended for a general audiences. A vast
array information such as government reports and conference papers is freely
available on the sites. It should be evaluated not all information is unbiased as
even accurate.

CONCLUSION
An information source is anything that might help a person to get knowledge
about something. Different types of questions require different sources of
information. Information sources may be observation, picture, organizations,
documents, speeches etc.There is more information available now than in the
entire history of humanity and the amount is still growing. It is also important to
understand when different types of sources will be published about a specific
event .The progression of media coverage about a news worthy event is called
the information cycle. Through this, we can gather knowledge about different
types of resources for accessing information.
