FAQ:
How do I get my locker?
On the day you get your class schedule (a few days
before school starts), you will also be assigned a locker.
Can I go to Burlingame Avenue for lunch?
No! There is no open campus at BHS. Instead, you can
bring your own lunch or buy food from the cafeteria.
Whats Buddies?
Our Buddies Program is where a student (sophomore,
junior, or senior) is your mentor through the year. There
are also Buddies Lunches where you get to talk with them
and do fun activities.
What school supplies should I buy?
Before school starts, you should only buy the things you
know you will need, such as a backpack, pencils, pens,
paper, and any other necessities. On the first day of
school, your teachers will give you a supplies list, so
theres no need to randomly buy things.
Where is the D-Lab? Is it the same as the Computer Lab?
The D-Lab (Computer Lab) is on the second floor of the D
Building, and you can get to it from the stairs by the
leadership room or the stairs on the other side of the D
Building.
What do I wear during PE?

During the first week of school, everyone purchases a

uniform, which includes a shirt and shorts. You will also
need athletic/running shoes because of the many
activities you will do.
How does the mile in PE work?
Once a week, your class will run a timed mile (4 laps
around the school track). It is completely normal for
people to run slowly, so dont stress out if you arent the
fastest runner.
How will I make friends?
Through your classes, you will meet so many new people.
The teachers have lots of group projects to help people
meet each other. Another good way is to do a sport, be a
part of the musicals and plays, or join a club, because in
these places there will be others with the same passions
as you.

What I Wish I Had Known My

Freshman Year:
I wish I had been more outgoing with upperclassmen in the beginning of
the year! I have gotten to know a lot of them and they are really nice. Just
don't be afraid to be friendly with everybody in general and meet new
people, BHS is a community! Another thing is: Don't stress out too much.
Freshman year is about getting comfortable in high school and becoming a
part of it. Don't work yourself TOO hard. Burlingame Intermediate
Graduate
To get involved, through clubs, drama, leadership, sports or whatever fits
you. Freshman year is ideal for trying new things, meeting, and finding your
passion. Borel Graduate
Coming from Crocker, not a lot of my classmates went to BHS for high
school so I felt like I could only hang out with my group from middle school.
So my advice is to reach out to other people because they're probably in a
similar situation. Friend groups will change, guaranteed, so don't be afraid to
be friends with people that came from other schools. Crocker Graduate
As a freshman I wished I had asked my teachers more questions and
become more involved in school activities. The things you do freshman year
really follow you throughout high school, so I wished I would've participated
in more clubs, gotten to know more people other than my friends from BIS,
and just be more involved and outgoing. It would have been helpful to get
out of my comfort zone freshman year, instead of later on in high school. The
4 years of high school really do go by fast, so you might as well make the
most of it. Burlingame Intermediate Graduate
PE is a great class to make friends, take advantage of 50 minutes where you
can basically just hang with friends while exercising. Also, one piece of
advice I would say is that don't be afraid to look stupid, whether in classes,
PE, sports, or buddies activities. Buddies is really all about getting to know
the people in your grade, and they're fun if you have an open mind.
Crocker Graduate
Find your group of people. If you try to fit into a group where you're not
welcome or don't belong, don't force yourself in; you don't owe anything to
these people. You don't owe them your time and effort if they don't respect
or notice you. If you cant integrate, move on. This is a time of mastering our

social perspective, so don't expect to get it perfect the first time you try to
join a new group. Make sure that you enjoy the company of those around
you, you're comfortable with what you do with them, and they respect and
treasure your presence. Keep changing and molding your social circle until
you feel welcome in a group. If all else fails, join drama, we'll take anyone
willing to hang out with a bunch of eccentric actors. Burlingame
Intermediate Graduate
Talk to your teachers if you have any questions about your work. Most tend
to be really helpful especially outside of class. Make new friends in clubs or
sports. Be nice to upperclassman. Study hard before you know it senior year
will be there. Have fun enjoy high school, but don't be a mean girl/guy and
ruin it for someone else! (: Burlingame Intermediate School Graduate
When I first started BHS I didn't have any friends, I was extremely shy
coming from a private school of less than 200 students in K-12 and suddenly
there were over 1,000 students in high school. It took me awhile to make
friends, but I wished I had known earlier that the only way to make more
friends is too be more involved. I was very scared to join clubs or activities,
but I soon realized that people in smaller groups with similarities are actually
very welcoming. I would want freshman to know that you really don't have
much to lose freshman year, so you should join as many things as possible.
- ESCS- Private Christian Academy Graduate
Explore myself and have the courage to face isolation. It seems scary to
attend activities alone or just be alone in general but being alone is a time
when we can recollect our thoughts and explore ourselves as a person
without societal constraints. Without personal development, students easily
fall into a pattern of conformity that often produces dangerous results such
as bullying or exclusion and lacks positive traits such as encouragement or
inclusion. Understanding myself better was also helpful in knowing my limits
and by corollary, my potential. - Burlingame Intermediate School Graduate
