4. How did World War II change the ethnic diversity of Poland? –


Poland was invaded by Germany on Sept. 1st of 1939 and the
Soviet soldiers on the 17th. An agreement was made, German-
Soviet, to divide Poland between Germany and the USSR. Even
thought another agreement was made to get rid of the Soviet-
Poland border and Poland was moved eastward, many Germans
still occupy Poland.

5. How have political and economic conditions in the Czech


Republic changed since the 1980’s? – Vaclav Havel become a
became a symbol of human rights. Political leaders of Czech and
Slovak agreed to become two separate nations.

6. How have Romania’s economic activities changed since the end


of Communist rule? – Romania went through a time of economic
downfall for around a single decade, but it has begun rising
again.
7. What natural resources have given Hungary an advantage in
establishing itself as an independent nation? –Bauxite
(aluminum), coal, natural gas, fertile soil, and arable, or usable,
land.

8. How does Hungary differ from the Czech and Slovak republics? –
Hungary is a Communist nation, while the Czech and Slovak
republics are not.

9. List the Baltic States and border Nations. – The Baltic States are
Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The border Nations are Russia,
Belarus, and Poland.

10.How has location affected the history and economies of the


Baltic states of Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia? – The location has
affected history and economies of the Baltic states because of
the water on its west coast. Near hurricanes and flooding have
affected the Baltic states. Also having the water near by provides
economic resources.

11.How did economic concerns contribute to civil war in the


Balkans? -

12.Which river flows through Poland’s capital? – Vistula River.

13.In Russia, which city is farther north, St. Petersburg or Moscow? –


St. Petersburg.

14.How do location and climate affect ecosystems in Russia? –


Russia is located very far north, meaning it has cold and long
winters with very short summers. The ecosystem is affected by
this because of all the snow not many trees can live.

15.In 2014, what special event is going to be hosted in Sochi,


Russia? – The winter Olympics will he hosted in Sochi, Russia.

16.What line of longitude runs through the Ural Mountains and how
have they affected Russia? – 60 degrees. They affect Russia by
providing them with many different kinds of minerals, which can
be a good economic resource for them.

17.Why did the Russian people start a revolution in 1917? –There


were two revolutions. The February Revolution and the October
Revolution. The cause of the revolution(s) was the people of
Russia wanted to revolt against the dictator, Tsar Nicholas II.
18.How did the end of Communist rule lead to changes in Russia? –
The end of Communist rule lead to changes in Russia because
they finally became their own country again.
