WORKPLACE HEALTH & SAFTEY POLIY AND PROCEDURE


POLICY STATEMENT
The Management and Staff of Philippine Emirates Private School is committed to

Provide a sustainable, healthy and safe workplace for employees, students and visitors
to ensure that risk of hazards if not eliminated is controlled to its minimum level
Implement and uphold the ADECs EHS Policy which applies to all staff, students, and
visitors

PURPOSE
As stated in the ADECs EHS Policy it aims to:

Promote a culture of responsibility and accountability toward protection of the


environment and human health and safety;
Minimize environment, health and safety impact, hazards and risks arising from PEPSs
daily activities and operations;
Promote awareness and encourage participation through effective communication and
consultation with staff, students, parents and school management;
Provide on-going training in relevant environment, health and safety issues;
Prevent injury, ill health and environmental pollution;
Enhance the health and well-being of PEPSs staff students;
Comply with all relevant EHS legislation;
Provide adequate resources to maintain a sustainable, healthy and safe environment
Preserve and improve the cultural, natural and built environment in which the school
operate; and
Achie e continual improvement of PEPSs EHS performance

RESPONSIBILITIES
School Principal/Senior Management Team
The School Principal/Senior Management Team are responsible for:

Endorsing the School EHS Policy;


Ensuring the school complies with all applicable EHS laws and regulations;
Allocating adequate resources for EHS (e.g. budget, human resources, equipment,
space, etc.);
Allocating responsibility for EHS and delegation of authority by appointment of suitable
person the role of EHS Officer;
Ensuring the appointed EHS Officer attends mandatory EHS training;
Attendance at mandatory EHS training for school leaders;
Ensuring implementation of school EHS procedures;
Ensuring risk management activities are incorporated into relevant activities and
procedures throughout the school;
Ensuring employees are provided with EHS information, training and instruction;
Ensuring communication and consultation mechanisms are established including the
establishment of an EHS Committee;
Ensuring an annual EHS assessment is conducted and submitted to ADEC EHS Section;
Ensuring incidents are recorded internally & reported externally to ADEC EHS Section;
Ensuring the school has effective emergency management procedures.

Department Heads, Subject Area Coordinators and Activity Coordinator


Department Heads, Subject Area Coordinators and Activity Coordinator are responsible
for:

Implementing and monitoring the risk management program;


Participating in hazard and incident investigations;
Regularly discussing EHS issues at departmental and subject area meetings;
Providing EHS information, training and supervision;
Reporting of EHS hazards and incidents.
Employees, Students, Contractors and Visitors

Employees, Contractors, Students and Visitors are responsible for:


Complying with EHS instructions and safe working procedures;
Using appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems;
Being familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures;
Not will fully or recklessly endangering anyones health and safety;
Participating in the preparation of risk assessments;
Reporting EHS hazards, incidents and issues.

Nominated EHS Officer


The appointment of an EHS Officer does not relinquish the responsibilities of the School
Principal/Senior Management Team, Department Heads, Subject Area Coordinators,
Activity Coordinator, or employees.
EHS Officers roles and responsibilities include:

Attending mandatory EHS training;


Providing advice on the implementation of EHS policies and procedures;
Conducting risk assessment for all school activities;
Raising EHS matters and issues to the School Principal/senior management on behalf or
employees;
Communication and raising awareness of EHS requirements;
Leading the EHS inspection program;
Leading the investigation of EHS issues or incidents and involving ADEC EHS Section in
the investigation of reportable incidents;
Ensuring the implementation of EHS Requirement for all contractors having access to
school;
Facilitating the completion of the annual EHS assessment;
Attending EHS Committee meetings.
