Differentiate between the Mayerhoffs and Terzaghis Bearing Capacity

theories.
A foundation of size 1.6m 1.0 m is resting on two layered soil as shown in
figure below. Estimate the allowable load bearing capacity of the foundation
with a factor of safety of 4. Take anisotropic coefficient, K=1.4. (Take
Nc(L)=4.75 for K=1.4, H/b=1&n=0.33; Nc(L)=6.0 for K=1.4, H/b=0.5& n=0.33)

What do you understand by negative skin friction in pile foundation. State the
situation which causes negative skin friction.
A R.C.C. pile of size 30cm30cm and 10m long is driven into coarse sand with
unit weight of 16kN/m3 and angle of internal friction of 310. What is the
allowable load on the pile? For =310, Nq= 16 and N = 14.Take K=1.0 and
factor of safety of 3.0.

Describe briefly the various forces acting on well foundation.

A circular well of 5m external diameter and steining thickness of 1m is used as a
foundation for a bridge pier is a sandy stratum. The submerged unit weight of sand
is 10 kN/m3 and the angle of shearing resistance is 300. The well is subjected to a
horizontal force of 600 kN and a total moment of 5000 kN-m at the scour level.
The depth of the well below scour level is 12m. Check the lateral stability of the
well assuming it as light weight well.
