Frontiers in Science and Medicine Day at the Shady Grove Life Sciences Center
Medical advances and scientific discoveries present exciting opportunities for todays students to become
tomorrows scientists and medical care providers. One of the best ways that we can inspire young students
and encourage their interest in science and medicine is through hands-on, real-world experiences that
demonstrate career opportunities in these areas.
On October 9, your child will have the opportunity to participate in the seventh annual Frontiers in Science
and Medicine Day at the Shady Grove Life Sciences Center. This event, which will involve more than 15
biotechnology companies, universities, health care providers and research organizations, is designed to
demonstrate the vast array of exciting career opportunities that exist in science and medicine.
Your child will travel with classmates to the Shady Grove Life Sciences Center from 11:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m. on
Friday, October 9. During this time, students will meet physicians, researchers, and scientists while
participating in hands-on, interactive demonstrations of the work being done by the science and medical
organizations in the Shady Grove Life Sciences Center. Each student also will have the opportunity to spend
time inside an organizations laboratories to see first-hand the cutting-edge research happening right in our
community.
To help prepare for the event, scientists from the participating organizations will visit your childs science
class to conduct a Pipette Challenge and to teach the students how to use some basic lab tools. This visit is
scheduled for September 8 to afford students the opportunity to spend their science period working with the
equipment.

Da de Ciencias y Medicina En Shady Grove Life Sciences Center
Los avances mdicos y cientficos presentan oportunidades emocionantes para que los estudiantes de hoy
se conviertan en cientficos del maana y proveedores de cuidados mdicos. Una de las mejores formas que
podemos inspirar a jvenes estudiantes e incentivar sus intereses en la ciencia y medicina es a travs de
experiencias palpables, del mundo real, que demuestran oportunidades de carrara en estas reas.
En octubre 9, su hijo(a) tendr la oportunidad de participar en el sptimo anual da de Fronteras Ciencias y
Medicina en Shady Grove Life Sciences Center. Este evento, que involucrar a ms de 15 empresas biotecnologa,
universidades, proveedores de la salud y organizaciones de investigacin, esta diseado para demostrar las
oportunidades en carreras que existen en ciencias y medicina.
Su hijo(a) viajar con sus compaeros de clase al Shady Grove Life Sciences Center, el da viernes 9 de octubre,
de 11:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m. Durante este tiempo, los estudiantes se reunirn con doctores, investigadores y
cientficos mientras participan en actividades y demostraciones interactivas del trabajo que se est realizando
por la ciencia y organizaciones mdicas en el Shady Grove Life Sciences Center. Cada estudiante tendr la
oportunidad de pasar tiempo en los laboratorios de estas organizaciones para ver de primera mano las
investigaciones vanguardistas que se estn desarrollando en nuestra comunidad.
Para ayudar la preparacin de este evento, cientficos de las organizaciones participantes visitarn la clase de
ciencias de su hijo(a) para conducir un desafo de pipeta y tambin para ensear a los estudiantes como usar
las herramientas bsicas de laboratorio. Esta visita est programada para el da 8 de septiembre para dar la
oportunidad a los estudiantes para pasar su clase de ciencias trabajando con el equipo.
