Mobil SHC PM Series

Synthetic Super Premium Paper Machine Lubricants

Product Description
Mobil SHC PM Series are superior quality lubricants specifically designed for use in severe
industrial paper machine circulating systems which lubricate gears and bearings over the
widest range of operating temperatures. They are formulated from wax-free, synthesized
hydrocarbons and a unique additive system which provide outstanding thermal and oxidation
stability, superior protection against rust, corrosion and wear, and excellent filtration efficiency.
The Mobil SHC PM Series have very low pour points and a naturally high viscosity index which
ensure good low temperature start-up and high temperature viscosity control. The fluids do not
suffer viscosity loss related to mechanical shear in heavily loaded bearings and gears. Their
low traction coefficient and high viscosity index result in lower power consumption and reduced
component operating temperatures. Hence the life of equipment, filters and the lubricant is
extended.

Benefits
Mobil SHC PM Series offer the following benefits compared with the use of mineral oils:

Significantly extended lubricant charge life

Excellent resistance to deposit formation
Filter life extended significantly
Premature bearing failures eliminated
Running temperatures reduced
Ready separation of water without the need to stop the machine, allowing
optimum operation of wet end bearings
Improved filtration efficiency and elimination of clogged pipes resulting in
increased oil flow and better cooling
Lower power consumption
Excellent protection against rust and corrosion and superior keep clean

performance
Higher machine speeds possible and higher steam pressures and process
temperatures
Fewer unscheduled stoppages and reduced maintenance costs

Applications
Mobil SHC PM Series lubricants are recommended for paper machine circulation systems,
particularly where conditions are severe and where high operating temperatures can result in
short oil life, oil darkening and deposit formation with conventional mineral oils and in short filter
life. Mobil SHC PM Series provide excellent filtration efficiency even with the very fine filtration
used with high-output paper machines operating under severe conditions. This has enabled
them to be used both as the flushing oil for a new machine and as the service fill without
draining.
Mobil SHC PM Series are compatible with the following seal materials: fluorocarbon,
polyacrylate, polyurethane ether, silicone, ethylene/acrylic, chlorinated polyethylene,
polysulfide, Viton and Buna-N with low to medium nitrile levels.
Mobil SHC PM Series lubricants are compatible with mineral oils, but admixture detracts from
the superior performance properties of the synthetic fluids.
