Upgrading the Software

Note: The procedure of installing and selecting new software versions
is different from previous releases of Local Upgrade.
To upgrade the software in a unit:
1. Connect the serial port on the PC to the O&M port on the unit you want
to upgrade. The unit must remain in its position in the access module,
with the power on.
Note: If you want to upgrade the RAU, connect the PC to the MMU.
2. On the Start menu, first click Programs and then Local Upgrade.
The Local Upgrade dialog opens.

3. In the drop-down list, select the COM port (serial communication port on
the PC) to which you have connected the equipment.
4. Click Start Upgrade.
Note: If you want to install new load files (see step 8 on the next page),
click Install Load Files and select the files you want to install.
5. If you are connected to an MMU, the Select Unit dialog opens.

6. Click a button to upgrade that unit.

Note: Always upgrade the MMU before the RAU.
Note: The radio must be connected to the MMU when upgrading from
an MMU software revision earlier than R4A. If the MMU software
is of revision R4A or later, you can upgrade the software even if
the radio is not connected, but this is not recommended since
the upgrade procedure takes longer time.
7. Click OK to confirm that you want to upgrade the unit.
The Select Version dialog opens.

8. In the list, select the software version you want to install.

Note: If the version you want to install is not listed, click Cancel to
return to the Local Upgrade dialog where you can install new
load files by clicking Install Load Files (see step 4 on the
previous page).
8. Click OK.
The Upgrade Progress dialog opens and remains open while the
software is upgraded. This takes 4 to 15 minutes depending on what
type of unit you are upgrading.

Caution!
Do not disconnect the cable between the PC and the unit you are
upgrading while the Upgrade Progress dialog is displayed.
If you want to stop the upgrade process before it is finished, click Abort
to cancel the process in a controlled way. This aborts the process and
restores the software to the original version.
9. After a successful upgrade, the program informs you that the process
has completed. Click OK to close the Upgrade Progress dialog and
return to the Local Upgrade dialog where you can continue to upgrade
other units.

Unsuccessful Upgrading
If the program fails to upgrade a unit, please check that:
- you are connected to the O&M port on the right unit.
- you are connected to a COM port on the PC.
- you have selected the right COM port in the program.
- the cable is OK.
