Annotated Bibliography
The topic I chose for my research paper is the push for young girls to become
interested in math, technology, and the sciences, mainly at the elementary and
middle school levels. When choosing a topic, I wrote down some ideas of
interesting things to research, and then from there narrowed it down to the topics I
could easily research. Since this topic is somewhat related to the topic of my
argumentative essay (formal paper 2), I already have some good background
knowledge to work off of and I have opinions about this topic which will help me to
stay focused and write the paper with my ideas in mind, rather than get bored
writing about a topic I dont care about at all. I am clearly interested in this topic
because my life is directly affected by it, considering I am a female going into
engineering. I plan on introducing some of the aspects of society that cause young
girls to become discouraged about entering these types of fields because they are
dominated by men. Then I will explain these programs and giving examples of
these programs and share my thoughts on the situation and my reasoning for
thinking such thoughts. My thesis statement is this: Programs in schools that
encourage young girls to exercise their interests in math, technology, and sciences
are progressive for achieving gender equality in our society.
