The new and entertaining aviation enthusiasts' blog AirPigz has just named the Waiex their 2009
Homebuilt Of The Year (HOTY), citing the Waiex's efficiency, safety, performance and ramp-appeal
as reasons for the choice. Check-out the posting at www.AirPigz.com and you'll see that this blogger
definitely got a dose of the Sonex Aircraft Kool-Aid!
The versatility and value of Sonex Aircraft are featured in the 8th Edition of the Light Aviation Edition
of Aviator's Hotline magazine. The Light Aviation Edition is an electronic e-zine, and the article

John Monnett's EAA Sport Aviation Hall of Fame Keynote Address Video Online
Sonex Aircraft, LLC Founder and President John Monnett was given the
honor of presenting the keynote address at the 2008 EAA Sport
Aviation Hall of Fame Induction ceremony. Himself a 2001 EAA
Homebuilder's Hall of Fame Inductee, John spoke of the wonderment
of aviation and the EAA, the need for the recruitment of more new
pilots, the ever increasing need for more efficient aircraft, and the
need for EAA to embrace soaring as an addition to its many diverse
groups of recreational aviation divisions. Find out more about John

Sonex builder Bob McGrath (Sonex S/N 692) of Louisville, Ohio was recently featured in the Canton
newspaper, The Repository. At 86 years-old, Bob fulfilled his life-long dream of building an aircraft
with his Sonex project. Bob and his wife Eleanor plan to use the Sonex to visit family and friends in
Vermont, Phoenix and Idaho.

Show on September 16 regarding his participation in the FAA ARC committee examining the
Experimental-Amateur Built rules, the proposed FAA policy changes, and the need for pilots

Interview with builder Jeffry Shultz about his experience building a Sonex Aircraft.
Sonex builder and pilot Jeffrey Shultz (Sonex SN 604) was interviewed by Ultraflight Radio on
August 19. Shultz answered questions about his experiences building an AeroVee powered Sonex in
approximately 1 year's time, while balancing family commitments with a wife and 2 young children
and an Army career. Theinterview is now archived for download on the Ultraflight Radio web site! Be

August 2008: AirVenture Today
Big Aviation checks out AirVenture
by Peter S. Lert
GE is sharing the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh story with hundreds of thousands of visitors to its website
in a specially produced video now featured on the corporation’s home page (www.ge.com). The 6-
minute video describes the “innovation treasure hunt” conducted by several GE and Airbus engineers
who visited AirVenture this past summer. Featured in the "Innovation" portion of the video is the E-
Flight electric-powered Waiex, which was on-display in the EAA Welcome Center. The video is
scheduled to remain on the GE home page until October 24th.
An article about the GE and AI engineers' AirVenture explorations published in the August 2 edition
ofAirVenture Today shows that the group found inspiration not-only in the E-Flight electric Waiex,
but also in the Xenos Motorglider and in Sonex Founder and President John Monnett's role as an
"inspirational pioneer" in aviation innovation.

"Motivated by Madison: Building a Mini-Waco" by Andrew Maitland.
Andy Maitland of Cranberry, PA built a 3/4 Scale Cabin Waco powered by an AeroConversions
AeroVee Engine. Maitland reports cruise speeds of approximately 85 mph, max speed approximately
90 mph, and climb rates of approximately 1,000 fpm single pilot. Empty weight quoted in Sport
Aviation article is incorrect: actual empty weight is 780 lbs according to builder. The aircraft was
featured in EAA Sport Aviation Magazine: April, 2008 "Motivated by Madison: Building a Mini-Waco"

An article featuring Lou Pappas' award winning Jabiru 3300 powered Waiex. While the article
contained a lot of positive information, Sonex Aircraft, LLC disagrees with some of the negative

"AeroVee: grandson of the VW, and a highly refined conversion"; Engine Beat column by
Tim Kern.
Kitplanes powerplant columnist Tim Kern reviews the history of VW conversions and the AeroVee,
lists the AeroVee's advantages over the competition and explains why the engine dominates the VW
conversion market. Kern also gets a "scoop" on the release of AeroVee 2.0
January-February 2007: Recreational FlyerMagazine
AeroCarb customer Owen MacPherson wrote an article featured in the January-February 2007 issue
ofRecreational Flyer, the official magazine of the Recreational Aircraft Association Canada. The article
features the AeroCarb, clarifying many of the common concerns about slide-type carburators,
highlighting the unit's simple and reliable operation, and MacPherson's great satisfaction with the
AeroCarb, which has over 300 hours flown over 5 years on his VW conversion. The article also
features two sidebars. One is an interview with Sonex Aircraft, LLC founder and President John
Monnett discussing the AeroCarb and the future of the AeroConversions product line. The other
sidebar features customer Gerry Younger, and his positive experience flying the AeroCarb on his 0-
200 powered aerobatic clip wing Cub, which is equipped with inverted fuel and oil systems.
