Although specific FM shut-downs like, 2015 BBC closes FM transmitter in Abu Dhabi, and Policy makers paving the way for marginal quality improvements,
the inherent simplicity, low cost of FM technology, and robustness of FM broadcast, holds fast.
Broadcasting manufacturers like Rohde&Schwarz (NA6) and Harris (2003 starter kit) already prepared for DAB market take-off
World DAB mentions the following policy makers commitments to DAB DAB+:

Norway DSO confirmed for 2017 | United Kingdom Government commitment to digital future for radio. Switchover criteria likely to be met in 2017 for
Government review | Switzerland broadcast industry has proposed DSO 2020-2024 | Denmark DSO when 50% listening is digital, transition to DAB+
by end 2016 | Germany committed to DAB+ | Netherlands National stations started on DAB+ in 2013. Regional stations will start in 2015 | Italy
regulator has announced 3 new licence areas. | France 3 cities on air, regulator has proposed further cities | Australia DAB+ launched in 5
metropolitan areas 64% population. Regional coverage under discussion.
DAB has secured the lion share of some automobile market sectors in some countries where drivers want to divert budget to securing fading and
interference free rides. But the Americas markets so far have no interest. Audio broadcast receivers make their products FM+DAB ready,
in current crisis times, to divert relevant purchase effort on audio broadcast improvement considered by many as marginal.
Mobile phone operators have taken significant spectrum that was traditionally allocated to analog TV channels. Read more on TV Digital switch-over in
the UK, Arqiva DSO in UK.
The failure of the broadcast transmitters industry to offer RAN in order to fence off mobile operators but supplying duplex wireless links using broadcast
stations as base stations has brought technologies like DVB-T (current upgrade DVB-T2) part of DVB group to enjoy a fraction of the spectrum that could
have used to cover the last mile.

The IET public report 'Demand Attentive Networks' shows significant data rates to subjective audio quality of DAB DAB+ vs FM.

Which recommends in DAB explained end consumers considering to upgrading DAB to DAB+, to check new models is backwards compatible, as DAB and
DAB+ use different audio compression.
on August 31st 2015 Arqiva website did not return a single search direct result for DAB+ despite mentioning 16e6 DAB radios sold in the UK (DAB turns
up the volume) cautiously mentioning in same page that past sold DAB receivers are not compatible with the DAB+ more efficient audio coding. Arqiva

In Rohde&Schwarz technology overview, only DAB+ shows up, as if the millions of DAB receivers sold so far should not be taken into consideration.
DAB started in Canada, it has been around for a while, but according to WIKI Digital Audio Broadcasting, DAB is no longer in use in Canada.
However, DAB industry carries on the roll-out of DAB+ (overview) within what they call the Eureka family of standards, and adds value to audio
broadcasting by enabling video broadcast through DAB, calling it terrestrial Digital Media Broadcasting T-DMB, a development direction on crash course
with all mobile communications developments 3G 4G LTE already securing the broadband, the end terminals, the customers money.
Deployment
