1987

With new hopes and determinations we entered into the New 1987 Year.
1986 was a great year in our Polish ministry and great things

were

accomplished.

Being lifted up by prayers of thousands of Christians in this count

ry and in Poland, God gave us good health so without any interruption
we were able to preach, teach, write and publish the Word of
God
which is reaching many souls; some for salvation others to give
strength and comfort.

In 1986 we were able to edit and publish regularly our Polish maga

zine /I200 copies/ each month. Due to a great demand January first
of this year we increased the number to 1500 copies per month.

This magazine touched many souls and many of them gave their hearts
to

Jesus.

Bro. Heit from Milwauke, Wis., a Polish Christian and author of a Po

lish Bible Dictionary, sent us 3000 copies of his Bible Dictionary
which we

forwarded

to Poland.

This book helps many people to search the Scripture and is in great
demand.
We
thank

God

for

Bro.

Heit.

We also were able to publish two poem books - one written by Bro. W.
Babis and the other by sister M. Bartikowska - all 3000 copies were
sent to Poland.

Bro. Kosciecha, our radio and cassette minister, produces 2 radio

programs a week and broadcasts to Poland through radio IBRA.
Last year he prepared 850 cassettes with messages from the Scripture
-

I traveled extensively, leading Faith Promise Rallies and visiting

Churches with the message ibout work in Poland, accompanied at

ti

mes by two preachers from'Poland: Bro. Konstanty Sacewicz in June

and Bro. Ryszard Tomaszewski in October.
' I

Last July I went to Poland for a triple celebration; the 65th Anni
versary of the Churches of phrist in Poland, the 20th Anniversary
of the Christian Service Capp and the 25th Anniversary of the Ra
dio ministry.
I
I

In Baltimore I lead regularly the weekly prayer meetings at

the

Slavic Church of Christ.

The Slavic Church of Christ, which we established in 1960, enjoyed

the service of Bro. Adam Korenczuk for 25 years. Last year the Lord

added again to the Church 4;precious souls by baptism.

Christmas Day offering for tfie building program in Poland and Ar

gentina reached S 1,600.00 w^at moved us to tears. It was a great
accomplishment for a congregation of 39 members.
'

In Poland 23 preachers and 9jChristian workers proclaim the Gospel

faithfully. Many souls were baptized into Christ, new mission pla

ces were opened and one Churicjh was established. Another Church de
cided to

leave Pentecostalisin and become the

Church of Christ.

A building was purchased for the newly established Church in Gdansk,

Buildings in Biala Podl., Sieiniatycze, Ostroda and Rybnik are reno
vated and Church in Bielsk Pq^I. is in an extensive building prog
ram .

3 students are studying for the ministry at the Academy of Theology

in Warsaw and over 30 are enr6lled in the Correspondence Bible Se
minary .

Michal Weremiejewicz arrived ^Jan 9th in USA to attend Johnson Bible

College where he will study for one semester.
We thank Bro. David
Eubanks, president of J.B.C. f^r granting Bro. Weremiejewicz a full
scholarship.
I

The book written by Bro. Don DeWelt on the subject of the Holy Spi
rit is being translated in Poland and we hope i t will be published

this year.

and Sister B.J. Vernon, who visited Poland in October.
Bro. and

Sister Vernon enjoyed their trijp to Poland where they visited 11

Churches. Brethren in Poland appreciate such visits very much and

-

they thank God for Vernons and their ministry.

The Church in Poland grows : and enjoys full freedom in preaching of

the Gospel.

On the sad side we lost two preachers who departed to be with the
Lord: Bro. Szymon Sacala from Muratyn and Bro. Jerzy Sacewicz from
Warsaw -

both of them were over 80 years old.

The Lord blessed us also financially, so we were able to perform

the

above mentioned ministries.

The Churches and individuals contributed prayerfully gl72,428.24.

We thank all our faithful Friends of the Polish Ministry who gave
generously.
We also thank Christian Standard and Horizons for publishing
our

news about the need of money for building program in Poland,

The Lord sent funds through you and it was always on timel

The preachers had their living-link support, buildings were purcha

sed and renovated, books published. Bibles bought, medicine sent to

the sick, help given to needy, ministers trained and souls reached
for

Christ.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH and may the Lord bless you richly.

We are

proud to be your co-workers in the Lord's Vine^^ard, building

two young persons were locked in their homes by their parents so they could
not be baptized, but a week later we baptized them into Christ.
At the present time there is over 150 people attending our church. We have

TRIP

POLAND

The Guidance Committee of the Department of Missions - Polish Mi

nistry decided last year to have the annual meeting in Poland
this year.
The meeting will take place June 22-nd in Warsaw.

In order to get acquainted with Polish work and to see the prog
ress a party of 13 will arrive in Poland June 11.

They will be divided in 4 groups and in 10 days all Churches of

Christ will be visited where Paul Bajko, Gerald Cowan, Mark Howes,
Roland Lowry, Ken Meade, Adam Korenczuk, Wayne Murphy, J.T. Seg
roves and Irek Woloszczyk will preach.
At the end of our stay in Poland we will meet with all Polish
preachers in a special conference.
In Poland we have 25 full time and 5 part time preachers and evan
gelists.
All of them are supported by the Department of Missions.
The work in Poland includes also Christian Service Camp and Cor
respondence Bible Seminary.

Our preachers are dedicated men. The Church in Poland is growing.

There is a great need in establishing new churches which also
means new church buildings.

Department of Missions - Polish Ministry assists the Polish work

through regular support of preachers, purchasing and distribution
of Bibles, printing Song Books, publishing monthly Polish Maga
zine, printing books and Christian literature, purchasing buil
dings and renovating church buildings, broadcasting Gospel through
Radio and through Cassette ministry.
Material help is given to needy people and medicine is sent accor-

ding to received prescriptions fr^m Poland

All this work is done because of wonderful Churches and individuals

who are supporting Polish ministry financially and by prayers.

We appreciate every gift and thank God for you.
You are our colaborers in the great Vineyard of the Lord in Poland.
We would also like to thank you for
S 4000.00 which we received
in February, March and April toward our trip to Poland.

Please remember us in your prayers as we will be traveling in Po

land in June and July proclaiming the Gospel of Christ and visiting

many homes.

BRO.

CHARLES STEELE DIED JUNE 12, 1987

A faithful member of the Department of Missions Polish Ministry departed to be with the Lord
June

12.

Just two days before his death 13 people on their

way to Poland prayed for his recovery but it was
God*s will to call him home two days later.
His death was a great shock for all of us here at

the Department of Missions and for the Christians

in Poland.

Bro. Charles was a great friend of the Polish

people and a great propagator of the Polish
miTogether with his wife, Dolly, he visited Poland
several times, saw the need of spreading the Gospel there and building the New Testament Church.
Although he served local congregations in
the
States, he raised thousands of dollars toward

building of a Christian Service Camp in Ostroda,

to buy Polish Bibles, to build Church buildings
in Poland, for medicine and relief.

Every Polish preacher who visited USA was a guest in his home where they
felt
like home, enjoying hospitality, warmth and fellowship with the Steeles.
He always gladly arranged speaking dates for the visiting preachers from Poland.
Charles seldom missed the annual meeting of the Guidance Committee - Polish Mi
nistry. He was a good adviser, a good friend, a great worker and a praying man.
WE

MISS

CHARLIE

VERY

MUCH.

Charles was not only a missionary minded preacher but he was also a great evan
gelist.
Here is a short testimony of Mrs. Sarah Kreidler which wereceived together with a
contribution in memory of Bro. Charles Steele:
-

"I feel we haoe lost one of the greatest pi>eaohers I ever heard, when Char
ges Steele passed au'ay June 12, 2987. After having heen gone from Cadiz
for
several years, he came back to hold a mvival meeting for us and the crowds
that came each night were greater than any former meeting we had ever had
to
the best of our knowledge. Folks from other congregations attended for he had
touched so many people in the past by the kind things he had done. I will ne
ver forget that great man, I gust wanted to pay this last tribute to him."
We express our deepest sympathy to Dolly and the children and pray that
the
Lord will comfort them and give them strength. The cherished memories af Charles
will remain with us for ever.

THE

GREAT

TRIP

TO

POLAND

June 10th thirteen people - members of the Guidance Committee and friends
of
the Polish mission, myself and my wife, Dela, departed for Poland, We arrived
in Poland the next day and were met by a crowd of Polish preachers and friends
with flowers and a warm Christian welcome. We all gathered first at the Pulawska Street Church where the ladies of the Church prepared delicious refreshments
and where bro. A. Bajenski, minister of the Warsaw Church, greeted us officially
and we were located in Christian homesiin Warsaw. And so our great adventure
began.

The next day in Warsaw, when we were yet all together, we were taken on a
sightseeing tour of the Old City of Wajrsaw, which included a lengthy visit

ourselves and tell them about our work.

Since our American friends were to stay in Poland only 12 days and all Churches
want to meet at least some of them, the whole group was divided in 3 smaller
groups and we all went different directions all over Poland, visiting Churches.
In the north - western part of Poland the following Churches were visited;

Polczyn-Zdroj, W. Swiatkowski minister; Kolobrzeg, Piotr Karel minister; Bialogard, Roman Szmigiel minister. The Kolobrzeg Church is responsible for
a
mission in Gryfice, where bt^ZagtoIckj is.jQlnisteri-Pg.In Gryfice we were shown
a
building, which would be very adequate as a meeting place for the local congre

gation. The building is located in a beautiful area and is in a very good condi
tion, We decided to buy this building for S15.000 and as soon as we returned to
the States we forwarded the 515,000 for the purchase of this particular building
in Gryfice.

In Gdynia, the newly established congregation led by bro. Sergiusz Kobus, reno
vated the building recently purchased by the Department of Missions for S25.000.
While our American group was there they had their very first service in their
new sanctuary and a couple of weeks later an official dedication of the buil
ding.

In the northern part of Poland Churches were visited in: Lidzbark-Warminski,

where bro. M. Makarczuk and Jerzy Puszcz are ministers; Olsztyn, Jan Szymczuk
minister, and Ostroda, Pawel Wrobel minister. The congregation in Ostroda meets
in a beautiful sanctuary in the Home for the Senior Citizens.
Over a year ago this home was heavily damaged by fire and is now in the stage
of rebuilding. The Chapel - sanctuary has been already rebuilt but due to lack
of funds the rest of the house has not yet been touched. Department of Missions-

Polish Ministry contributed al-

ready 31.000. There are 12 rooms

in the house and it will take a-

In the eastern part

^ ^

Poland

we visited: Siemiatycze, A. Ze-

gunia minister; Bielsk-Podlaski,

Kostek Jakoniuk minister;
Szymczuk minister;
Biala-Podlaska, Piotr Bronowicki,
Sr. minister. In Biala-Podlaska

At the Lord's Table

-

the Church celebrated de

dication of the complete

ly rebuilt and renovated
church building. The san
ctuary was overflowing
with people.
There was great preaching,
singing, special numbers,
followed by a delicious
dinner for all who

were

present at the service an Agape feast.

Brothers Peter Bronowicki,
Sr.

and his son Peter Bro

nowicki, Jr., who is

the

minister at the Church in

Dedicatorary service in Biala Podlaska

Matiaszowka, did a great

job!

In the south the following Churches were visited: Myslowice, J. Bogacki minis
ter; Katowice, Kazimierz Barczuk minister; Sosnowiec - Konstanty Sacewicz and
Z. Skiba, ministers; Dabrowa Gornicza, Henryk Sacewicz minister. In Rybnik,
where bro. E. Gutkowski is ministering, we were impressed by the way they are
rebuilding and adapting the building for Church purposes. We made there a dona
tion of S1000 and promised to send another $4000 for further rebuilding.

And in central Poland the whole group visited the Pulawska St. Church in War
saw, where Brothers Andrew Bajenski, Br, Hury and W, Dwulat are ministers.
Since for many of our American friends this was the first visit to Poland, ti
me was given to visit some historical places in Poland and so some visited the
old city-port of Gdansk, Krakow - the first capital of the Polish Kingdom, the
Auschwitz Concentration Camp, where 6i million people perished and Czestochowa,
the shrine of the Catholic Church.

While in Warsaw we took time to pay a visit to the governmental official - the
Director of Religious Affairs, who accepted us very graciously.

The day before the departure of American friends, we had our Annual Guidance
Committee meeting followed by a meeting with the Executive Committee of Chur
ches of Christ in Poland, and later in the afternoon we met with almost all
preachers and evangelists of the Polish Churches.
The trip was a tremendous sucess. We rejoiced seeing what has been accomplished;
we rejoiced at the new possibilities and opportunities; we rejoiced seeing the
need of new buildings for worship or of enlarging the existing ones.

All of men preached and the ladies gave testimo

nies; some sang duetts and trios and also sang as a group.
The Polish brethren loved it when we sang in Polish. The Americans learned
the Polish songs while traveling in the micro-bus.
We came to Poland to serve, but in return we received much more: we were up

lifted spiritually and greatly encouraged by the hospitality, love, zeal and
fervent prayers of the Polish brethren.
I would like to share with

in Poland.

There are many needs and

RON LOWRY:
We came with ty
pical American pride to help
people in Poland but we have
taken more than we brought.
Singing in churches is great,
children behave well during
the service, great preaching,
wonderful hospitality, people
are deeply spiritual.

Meeting with Polish preachers

KEN MEADE: I see great growth of the Church. Each church has good building
which was bought or built by the Department of Missions - Polish Ministry.
People live in unity and harmony. Fellowship is most wonderful.
We
are
greatly impressed and encouraged.
WAYNE MURPHY: I see great excitment among the preachers and in the churches.
There is closeness among Christians. The trip was very enlightening and we go
home with great appreciation and prayers for the work in Poland.
J.T. SEGROVES: The trip enriched my life - great friendliness of people.
Christians are praying people. There is more emotion then in America,
I see
family closness. People are grateful for what they have and for our spiri
tual and physical help,
IREK WOLOSZCZYK: My visit to Poland was enlightening and encouraging. Meeting
with people in churches and young people in the Christian Service Camp enri
ched my life.
I see great opportunities for ministry in Poland and growth
of

the Church.

After departure of American Brethren myself, Dela and Irek remained in Poland
for the next 2 weeks visiting more churches, teaching, meeting in homes

gracious and hospitable. They made us

FUNDS FROM INTERNATIONAL DIsjASTER EMERGENCY SERVICE REBUILD

THE FIRE DAMAGED HOME FOR SENIOR CITIZENS IN POLAND
I

In September w received a check fot S 5,000.- from IDES toward rebuilding of

Home for Senior Citizens which was damaged by fire two years ago.

That money was immediately forwardW to Poland and we trust that next year the
Home will be in full operation.

IDES came already second time with| help - First it was during the economical

crises in Poland in 1981-82. Because of IDES we were able to send shipment of

food to Poland.

IDES is God sent Agency which is fulfilling the Great Commission through fi

nancial assistance around the wor]^d. It is the only dependable Agency in the
Restoration Movement.

We thank IDES from the bottom of <|)ur hearts in the name of the Polish Churches
of Christ and recommend the International Disaster Emergency Service as worthy
of everybody's support.

THi^ YOU!
I

In order to go to Poland this year we needed funds.

Two hundred letters were

sent to Churches and individuals who contributed S 4,000.- .

This covered all

expenses for Paul and Dela Bajko and Irek Woloszczyk and we still were able to
contribute S 1,000.- toward the purchase of a church building in Czarna-Sr.
