-Searching for the Resonance of ideas

EVENT DESCRIPTION
The demand for energy has always been something around which all global activities has been revolving
since a few centuries. A small electric bulb invented by EDISON seemed magical at the time which
revolutionized the whole human life and since then we have not looked back. But during the process, in
spite of adapting ourselves according to the environment, we adapted our environment according to us
and to such an extent that forward is the only step left for us. We became so dependent on electricity
that any form of energy which showed up has been explored and utilized leading to a severe energy
crisis today.
This event provides a platform for the engineers of tomorrow to present their creative ideas to solve this
energy crisis by exploring all the horizons of existing and developing technologies.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Earlier fossil fuels were the only major source of energy but when it started depleting we began looking
towards other alternatives. Solar, wind, geothermal, tidal and a lot of other options came up but a
landmark achievement was the magical equation of E = mc2 . Very few believed that a piece of mass
could be such a huge potential of energy but when the world saw the impact of that equation in
Nagasaki and Hiroshima, NUCLEAR ENERGY was the next big thing in the eyes of all the Godfathers of
energy industries. And today, along with SOLAR ENERGY, it seems our only hope in the future whose
potential matches the level of our requirement. But despite a great deal of advancements in the
technology, nuclear energy has still got a few big challenges in its path. Scarcity of U235, proliferation,
safety etc are a few of them apart from the economic and political obstacles, especially in a country like
India. Renewable technologies also face great technological and financial challenges.
Apart from generation, proper utilization of the generated energy is another important aspect of energy
industry today. Need for reducing the losses in transmission and synchronizing the distribution system
with the generation system, recycling of energy, reduction of power theft etc gave birth to a term called
SMART GRID.
Teams are asked to come up with their plan to meet the energy requirements of an India in 2025 by
development& implementation of NUCLEAR& SOLAR TECHNOLOGY AND THE CONCEPT OF SMART GRID
by overcoming the challenges ahead of them.
CONSTRAINTS:
1. The plan must include and should focus mainly on both (A) and (B) given below :
A. Nuclear technology or Solar technology(any one of them)

B. Smart Grid
2. The plan should also cover the process in development and implementation of nuclear or solar
energy in India from today to 2025 with the technical details.
3. The components of Smart Grid and its working along with the development &implementation
part should be covered.
4. A city or a state may be taken as reference to show the working of smart grid.
5. The abstract for Round 3 must contain details of your plan, quantitative analysis of the

technologies used, cost analysis etc as far as possible.

6. In the report provide exact web links of whatever technology or data you are using if
you are using data from internet. Eg. If you are using XYZ fuel which is fed into an ABC
engine. Your analysis will be like the system generates n Kw power[1] and its total cost
is Rs. M = cost of XYZ[2]+ABC[3]

ROUND 3: Submission of detailed abstracts based on which a final list of 8-10 teams qualifying for round
4 will be shortlisted.
ROUND 4: Qualified teams will have to give a 10 mins power point presentation of their plan followed by
2 mins queries.
ROUND 5: Based on Round 4, a few teams will qualify for the final round whose details will be disclosed
at the end of round 4. However, final judging will be done on the basis of marks of both round 4 and
round 5.
