THE SLOPE – INTERCEPT FORMULA

Problem 1

a. Determine the equation of the straight line whose slope is 7 and whose
y – intercept is 4.
y=7x+4 or 0=7x-y+4
b. Determine the equation of the straight line whose slope is -12 and
whose y – intercept is -3.

y= -12x-3 or 12x+y+3=0

c. Determine the equation of the straight line whose slope is ¾ and


whose y – intercept is 0.
y= 34x or 0= 34x-y

Problem 2

a. Determine the equation of the straight line whose slope is 5 and whose
y – intercept is 4/5.
b. Determine the equation of the straight line whose slope is -11 and
whose y – intercept is 8.
c. Determine the equation of the straight line whose slope is 3/7 and

POINT SLOPE FORMULA

Problem 1

a. Determine the equation of the line that passes through (2, 5) and (1,
7).
m=Y2- Y1X2- X1 Y- Y1=m (x-x1)
= 7-51-2 Y-5= -2 (x-2)
=2-1 Y-5= -2x+4
m= -2 2x+y-9=0

b. Determine the equation of the line that passes through (6, 9) and (2,
4).
m=Y2- Y1X2- X1 Y- Y1=m (x-x1)
= 4-92-6 Y-9= 54 (x-6)
=-5-4 Y-9= 5x4- 3044

PARALLEL AND PERPENDICULAR LINES

Problem 1

a. If a line has a slope of -¾, then what is the slope of a perpendicular


line?
m= 43
b. Which of these lines are parallel and perpendicular? Prove your
answer.
y=5x+9 y=34x+2 y=5x-9 y= -43x+2
• y=5x+9 and y=5x-9 are parallel lines

m1=5 m1=m2; Therefore, they are parallel.

DEMAND

Problem 1

ABC can sell 560 units of their product at P4,500 and 360 units if the
price will increase to P6,500. Determine the demand equation and graph.

P₁ = 4500 P₂ = 6500

P₁ (560, 4500) P₂ (360, 6500)

= 6500-4500360-560 Y-4500= -10 (x-560)

Problem 2
Mr. Santos is into furniture business and he can sell 6,750 furniture a
year at P2,550 each and only 3,250 furniture can be sold at P3,060 each.
Determine the demand equation and graph.

SUPPLY

Problem 1

XYZ Company will supply 1,800 units of its product at P380 per unit,
but if the price is at P500 per unit, the company is willing to supply 5,400 of
its product. Determine the supply equation and graph.

P₁ = 380 P₂ = 500

P₁ (1800, 380) P₂ (5400, 500)

Problem 2

At a price of P380 per unit, a manufacturing company supplies 3800


units of its product, but if the price increased by 35%, the supplier also
increased its supply to 5700 units. Determine the supply equation and graph.

MARKET EQUILIBRIUM POINT

Problem 1

If the price of a certain product is P5,250 then the demand is 750 units
and the supply is 1,5750 units. But if the price is increased by 25% then the
demand is decreased by 15% and the supply is increased to 2,700 units.
Solve for the MEP.
