(a) Review of technical background
(b) Discussion of data sets and the experiment
5) The role of each student in the group will be rotated from one experiment to the next one in the
following order:
The role of the students in the FIRST experiment is given in Annex 2 as well.
6) Due to uneven grouping, some groups will consist of five members. For these groups, the role of data
analyst is duplicated. The rotation becomes the following order:
2) Students should be proactive in seeking advices (theoretical and experimental, potential pitfalls etc.)
from the corresponding instructors. They should arrange meetings with the instructors before and after
the experiment, if necessary.
3) The instructor will conduct viva to the student groups performing the corresponding basket of
experiments during Week 2 (or 2nd session) of the experiment. Students are encouraged to arrange a
convenient time for both the instructor and the students themselves for the viva in advance.
4) The instructors will attend and evaluate the final presentation given by students during week 13.
Module Assessment
1) Grading: 5 reports + one final presentation (55%), 5 vivas (25%), safety test (10%) and peer review
(10%).
2) Each group will be subjected to viva during Week 2 (or 2nd session) of each experiment.
3) Each group is required to submit a written group report (of not more than 20 A4-sized pages, with
double-sided printing) to room EW2-04-02 at the beginning of the lab session for next experiment. A
softcopy of the report should be uploaded onto IVLE within a day after the hardcopy submission.
4) Indicate your roles on the cover page of your lab report.
5) For the final experiment, no report is required. Instead each group is required to make a 20-30 min oral
presentation on the experiment during the 13th week of the lab.
6) Late submission will be penalized at 10 points per day.
7) Students have to report their attendance individually to lab officers in room EW2-04-02 not more than
30 minutes after the commencement of the lab.
Plagiarism
1) Discussion among fellow students and other groups is permitted, but report copying is not
allowed. Software to track report copying will be installed.
2) If any context of the report is deemed copied, the whole group will be penalized as the following:
(First time) Zero mark on the report
(Second time) Grade F for the module
