MANIFESTO

I, Anuj Shah (120110007), standing for the post of Institute Speaking Arts Secretary, envision the
promotion of all forms of Speaking Arts on the club and institute level for which I hereby undertake
to do the following:
Initiatives

Food for Thought: Arrange a series of lectures by professionals or professors from the HSS
department to lend multiple perspectives to various issues and promote faculty-student
interaction
Sophie GD: Propose to conduct a GD session for sophomores moderated by professionals, to
enhance the communication skills and provide an exposure to public speaking
Debate Mash up: A collaborative effort by We Speak and IITBBC, we take freshmens
opinions on current issues on video, prepare a compiled video from the recordings taken and
publish it on IITBBCs YouTube channel. This would be done on a monthly basis

GCs

Assist hostels to host workshops specific to a certain GC on the request of UG and PG hostel
cultural councils
Ensure recording of all GC finals
Convene meetings with all hostel secretaries monthly to resolve any ambiguities or conflicts
in the rules of all GCs and also to discuss any intra-hostel event
Propose to conduct a Stand-Up Comedy workshop as a prelude to the Stand-Up Comedy GC

Hindi Speaking Arts

Will try reviving the Hindi Debate culture by encouraging fortnightly practices
Propose to send interested students to various Hindi Debate tournaments
Propose the initiation of a Hindi Debate tournament in the institute which will be participated
by various colleges in around Mumbai
Propose to conduct adjudication workshops for Hindi debaters to improve their judging
Conduct Kavi Sammelan in HindiUtsav and Aksharit in association with the Literary Council

MUN

Organise elementary workshops conducted by experienced seniors

Encourage students to go for MUN tournaments at least in and around Mumbai

Freshmen

Conduct freshmen orientations for both English and Hindi speaking arts clubs by experienced
seniors providing exposure to multiple activities in this genre
Conduct DB 101 workshops in both Hindi and English
Conduct informal sessions on debate games and group discussions for freshmen to help them
shed their inhibitions of public speaking
Conduct the Freshmen Debate Open and Pro-Am Debate Open
Propose to provide subsidies to freshmen for their first debating tournament to incentivise
freshmen to go for tournaments

PGs

Propose to appoint a PG convenor for We Speak and Vaani

Will assist the PG coordinator for organising competitions during PG Cult

Miscellaneous

Will publicise all events through online forums, mailing lists and posters
Conduct GD sessions for pre-final and final year students to boost their confidence and
communication skills for upcoming placement and internship interviews
Conduct voiceover and script writing workshops in association with the Dramatics Council
Maintain a calendar of major debate, JAM and MUN tournaments on the Fest calendar of the
Culturals website

Participated in the Justice Tarkunde Debate Open in ILS Law College, Pune
