Dear Student
ALAs finance department is introducing a new deposit system for incidental expenses in 2014-15, which
will reduce the strain placed on students and their families around unexpected expenses. This deposit is a
refundable payment of R2100 that will cover the incidental costs you might incur during your first year
at ALA. Incidental costs may include, but are not limited to:

Incidental medical expenses, such as medications not covered by our school health insurance
policy;
Payment for lost keys and key cards;
Broken equipment;
Additional university placement exams (ALA pays for two such exams, but additional sittings of
these exams are billed to students)
University or external opportunity application or visa fees

Kindly note that the likelihood of you incurring the above costs is very high. Should you choose not to
pay the incidental expense deposit you will need to pay for the incidental expense upfront.
An itemized statement with billings against this deposit will be provided along with any refund at the end
of the school year. Please kindly pay this deposit together with your first term school fees to avoid bank
charges per transaction. Our banking details are attached. Please note that the Incidental expense deposit
can be paid anytime before September 3rd, 2014.
