13 years ago, Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, our founder Chairman

and Chairperson of BRAC had ventured into BRAC Bank
for serving the un-banked mass of the country. In this
journey of financial inclusion, the bank has fulfilled dreams
by disbursing SME loans of nearly BDT 25,000 Crore to
over 5 Lac SME entrepreneurs more than 90% being
collateral-free! Left out in traditional banking system,
small entrepreneurs now get easy access to credit. So,
we are contributing for their financial empowerment.

The 3P philosophy: People, Planet and Profit has

become our core belief at BRAC Bank and part of the DNA
of our business. We, as a Bangladeshi Bank have taken
initiatives not only for the people and society as a whole
but also maintained the same values while carrying out
our day-to-day business.
As an SME-focused bank, we provide financial facilities to
unbanked SME Entrepreneurs at grassroots level for their
financial inclusion, a service that has been recognized
as a part of CSR by Bangladesh Bank. As part of our
commitment to the planet, we have launched a project to
solarize all SME Unit Offices. We also have plans to bring
our branches and ATMs under solar energy gradually.
BRAC Bank is blessed with inspirations from our Founder
Chairman Sir Fazle Hasan Abed on serving the people.
Sir Abed founded BRAC Bank with a vision of financial
inclusion of the unbanked mass people. Following his
visionary path, BRAC Bank has now emerged as the
largest SME Bank ensuring financial inclusion of more
than 5 lac small and medium entrepreneurs at grassroots
level.
We are grateful to Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Atiur
Rahman for his guardianship and policy support to
make social works more pro-people and pro-planet. We
streamline our CSR programs with valuable insights and
guidance from our Honorable Board of Directors.
At BRAC Bank, employees work with a greater mission.

social initiatives.

CSR Strategy of BRAC Bank

BRAC Bank Limited follows the 3Ps (People, Planet and

Profit) philosophy in its operation. Besides core business,
the bank puts strong emphasis on Corporate Social
Responsibility-initiatives that support the people and
protect the planet. To expand social activities and carry
out them in a focused way, BRAC Bank has launched a
CSR Desk with a dedicated team assigned for the desk.
The desk is initiated in line with guidelines of Bangladesh
Bank, will help the bank put focus its on different CSR
activities and ensure transparency. It will also help to carry
out CSR jobs in an organized way. General people and
prospective beneficiaries will get access to information
about the banks CSR programs.

Nadim Ahmed is well known at Mirabazaar in Sylhet as a

betel leaf seller. He earns bread of his family by running
the small shop on footpath. But the duty does not stop
him from going to college. Everyday he attends class from
9am to 2pm handing over responsibility to his father who
is suffering from respiratory problem.

His indomitable attitude and diligence have not gone in

vain. He achieved GPA 5 in this years HSC examination
from Sylhet MC College. Financial crisis did not distract
him from his mission. He also got GPA 5 in SSC in 2012
from The Aided High School. He wants to be an engineer

With an objective to support meritorious but financially

insolvent students to facilitate their higher education,
BRAC Bank-Prothom Alo Trust Adamya Medhabi
Scholarship was introduced in 2010. The scholarship
brings an end to dropout of brilliant students like Nadim.

BRAC Bank will continue support all throughout the

student life of the recipients. Many scholars are now
studying in BUET, medical and Dhaka University. Each
year 50 students who achieve GPA 5 in SSC level get the
scholarship for HSC study. Among them, the students
who also repeat GPA 5 in HSC level get scholarship for
graduation.
Out of 45 students, 29 achieve GPA 5 in this years
HSC examination. As of now 393 students avail the
scholarship.

Being a part of the Bengal Classical
Music Festival
BRAC Bank Limited was the proud partner of Bengal
Classical Music Festival 2014 that was held at Army
Stadium for 5 consecutive nights starting from November
27 which ended up December 1, 2014. This year the
festival was dedicated to Palli Kabi Jasimuddin.

Under the contest titled BRAC Bank SME Photography

Competition 2013, primarily shortlisted young
photographers visited business establishments of
exceptional SME entrepreneurs in different parts of the
country to create a photographic profile of the businesses.

organized. BRAC Bank was praised for undertaking the

Taking warmth to cold-hit people

On receiving a blanket, Mr. Abdul Aziz, an 80 year old
man at Bhurungamari in Kurigram, said, Warm clothes
ahead of winter has come as a great help for us. We can
now have a good nights sleep this winter. May Allah bless
you.
BRAC Bank Limited has brought smiles to more than
26,000 poor people like Abdul Aziz in the Northern region
by distributing warm clothes well ahead of winter.
Our Northern region is hit hard by severe cold spell every
winter. People of the area were touched upon receiving
warm clothes well ahead of the winter season. Many
poor old-aged people queued up and received the warm
clothes. Some broke down in tears after getting the
clothes.
The initiative carries the warmth of each and every
employee who donated warm clothes for the less
advantaged people of our country. Apart from donating
warm clothes, the employees also raised funds to buy
blankets to help people survive the imminent and
unbearable winter. Every winter, BRAC Bank employees
come forward to help humanity.
Like previous years, the employees of BRAC Bank
donate funds for "BRAC Bank DAUR Marathon for
Humanity 2014 ", an annual marathon to raise funds
for humanitarian causes. A portion of the fund was used
to buy the blankets to be distributed among the less
advantaged people of our country.
BRAC Bank distributed 3,500 blankets 6,000 sweaters
and 17,000 warm clothes at Bhurungamari in Kurigram,
Dimla in Nilphamari and Harivasha in Panchagarh

Employees of BRAC Bank run marathon every year to

raise fund for supporting human cause. The employees
of BRAC Bank and its subsidiaries again took part to
BRAC Bank DAUR Marathon for Humanity like before.
On this occasion the employees raised a fund of than Tk.
1.2 million and the bank doubled it to a sum total of Tk.
2.45 million from its CSR fund.

This humane initiative by BRAC Bank was started from

2011.The marathon for the cause of humanity has set an

districts. Some 3,500 blankets, 6,000 sweaters
and 17,000 clothes were distributed among the
underprivileged people.

welfare, disaster management, education & sports,

guiding principles for future CSR initiatives. BRAC Bank
