ASYNCHRONOUS MOTORS

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

SINGLE-PHASE MOTORS
CANTONI single-phase motors are manufactured according to the most up-to-date technology and international standards. They
are, moreover, in conformity with all technical specifications mentioned in the first part of this catalogue.

OPERATION

CIRCUIT BREAKER

The motors of the "g.VMB and VMC" series

are designed for 220 - 230 V at 50/60 Hz
operating voltage and for a 2- and 4-pole
power range from 0.06 to 2.2 kW.

The circuit breaker is a device capable of

sensing the end of the starting phase of an
asynchronous single-phase motor and
allowing the automatic disconnection of the
electrolytic starting capacitor. Usually it is
mounted directly on the motor and does
not need any adjustment or maintenance.
Generally circuit breakers are either:
CAPACITORS
- centrifugal switches
The motors are equipped with 450 V - electronic circuit breakers.
capacitors mounted on the motor terminal The first type is electromechanical and it
board and are continuously rated (S1 is mounted directly on the rotor shaft. When
the motor reaches its rated speed, a
continuous duty).
Upon customer's request, the capacitor,
which is normally mounted on the outside,
can be mounted in a special plastic box
secured to the motor.

TORQUE

special mechanism making use of

centrifugal force disconnects an electric
contact connected with the starting
capacitor.
The second type is connected in series with
the motor feeding circuit and is capable of
detecting the absorbed current; when the
current reaches the rated values at the end
of the starting phase, a contact opens and
disconnects the capacitor.

CONNECTION DIAGRAMS FOR SINGLE-PHASE MOTORS

IStandard motor types and sizes from 56

to 80 are equipped with run capacitors
permanently connected in such a way that
they allow low starting torque.
For machines requiring high starting torque
(starting with a load equal to ML/MN>1), a
high capacity electrolytic condenser is
installed in addition to the permanent run
capacitor. This condenser is connected
only during the starting phase in order to
deliver the necessary higher torque. Once
the motor is started, the condenser is
automatically disconnected by means of a
circuit breaker.
