Magnitude of the Problem

Descriptive

This graph shows the rate of incarcerated adults in different nation of the world.

The rate includes male, female and different races. The graph does not single out

different crimes; it is consist of rape, robbery, murder, and also kidnappers. It all depends

on the state law as to what crimes are harsh enough for institution and what should be

done about crimes that are less harsh. The United States ranked the highest with a rating

of 225 but, the total is 1,339,695 inmates in the prison sentence. Next, is Mexico with the

second highest rate with a 97 but, India has the second highest total number of inmates

with 196,221. Mexico has 86,334 total inmates in the prison system.

Interpretive

The United States total number of inmates in the prison system is ridiculous. The

United States, our nation total population is in the millions and happens to be the only

nation in the millions. The reason for the United States rate is such a large number is

because medical examiners, police forensic pathologists and court orders are only

allowed to take part in certain cases as in the other nations, they have a big responsibilty.

Scope of the Problem

Descriptive

The black race has the highest number of incarcerated adults with the total of

336,600. Next are the white race with 296,000 and then the Hispanic with 119,200. This

graph doesn’t distinguish between male or female either. The prison population also

includes juveniles that are held as adults. The totals on the graph may be inaccurate

because there’s a host of adults that enters the prison system everyday.

Interpretive

African Americans are incarcerated at a rate that is six times higher than whites.

85% of African Americans are incarcerated for drugs, property and public offends, while

the other races are mostly incarcerated for murder or robbery. There are more blacks

incarcerated then those with college education. Youth violence is one key factor that put

Africa Americans rating higher than other race. Family and communities has a big impact

of the rate of incarcerated blacks, letting the children drop out of school and start selling

drugs and robbing individuals.

Changes in the Problem

Descriptive

The population of incarcerated adults increased through the years. The growth of

the prison system changes about 100,000 each year of incarcerated adults. The graph

includes a variety of all the races, age group, and gender. Juveniles that are tried as adults

are also included in the above charts. This graph is based off the prison system, not the

jail. Static show that each year a numerous of individuals are being committed of crimes

on a regular basis.

Interpretive

The reason for the increase of incarcerated adults through the years is because of

the rate of youth that are incarcerated, there sentence sometime run until they are an adult

which mean there are sent off to a prison system. The adults that are incarcerated are not

being good role models for their children and other kids in the community. In a TIMES

magazine, it was an article on incarcerated parents and their children future. The author

stated that kids who parents are incarcerated have a higher risk of being incarcerated.

What he said was true, that’s why the rates are increasing at a large amount because of

the different generations and different criminal activities increased.

Disparities in the Problem

Descriptive

The males top the females with an immense number. The male population of

inmates is over 3 million than the female population. Along with the other graphs, it does

include all races and age group. The graph consists of the United States as a whole.

Interpretive

This is no surprise; every one should’ve known that the males would out number

the females any time. In Oklahoma the females out rank the male is the prison system.

Females have a higher education rate than males causing them to go out and get a job

faster and leaving the males on the street hustling and robbing one another. That also

show how females are more mature than males, in the society today females are taking

over in businesses.

Summary and Conclusion

This assignment was designed to give me an outlook of the society and the actual

rates of incarcerated adults. The incarcerated adults are defining as; people of different

race, gender, and sex are all included in the research. Incarceration is putting individual

away for crimes they committed. In the United States, each state has their guidelines they

must follow as to which crimes are severe enough for the prison system. Each graph

represents a break down on incarcerated adults pending from male vs. female, different

races, and the changes through the years. Over the years the United States were

considered to have the largest population of incarcerated adults and the rate is steady

increasing through the years.

There’s a way we can stop the increase of the prison system population. If a

young child is convicted of a crime and only having to serve a little time, once exiting the

juvenile system they should be required to attend school everyday and also get a job.

Most adults that are incarcerated had a bad experienced as a child or even been

incarcerated as a child. Last year a static showed that one-in-three black males was in

prison. The drug world takes big responsibilities in the number of incarcerated adults

because some are too lazy to go out and get a job, that’s when they turn to drugs for quick

money that can almost cost someone their life.
