Contract position - 6months

We are looking for a Geotechnical Engineer to work on a contract basis for an Oil & Gas EPC client
located in West London
EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS:
A degree in geotechnical engineering from an accredited college or university.
Chartered Engineer or accreditation in an appropriate engineering discipline from a recognized
licensing board.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Must be familiar (both office and field experience) with geotechnical site investigations, including
planning, development, contracting and execution of geotechnical and geophysical programs.
Evaluates available geotechnical data and evaluate corresponding geotechnical design parameters.
Performs geotechnical analysis and design for deep and shallow foundations, sheet pile structures
and other geotechnical related structures or structural elements.
Assesses dynamic impedance of individual and group piles. Supports pile installations by developing
driving criteria and conducting driveability analyses.
Is familiar with machine foundations - dynamic response and associated designs.
Performs pavement design and analysis.
Performs geotechnical assessments and related design related to settlement, lateral foundation
design, pile capacity determination (including downdrag).
Evaluates or designs preloading systems, including the related settlement and time-rate analyses.
Supports construction heavy-lift assessments and designs.
Candidate should have expertise with related geotechnical in-situ and laboratory testing.
Plans, coordinates or prepares equipment or work specifications, bid evaluations and award
recommendations for geotechnical engineering investigations and related construction tools, methods,
equipment and subcontracts.

Coordinates geotechnical work with other technical disciplines and provides technical direction on
specialty issues.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Thorough knowledge of geotechnical and familiarity of hydrology engineering services techniques, the
design of engineered systems, and design calculations.
Understanding of industry or regulatory codes, standards and design criteria pertinent to the
geotechnical and related engineering disciplines.
Understanding of principles, with working knowledge of precedents and practices, in the geotechnical
area and of coordinating work with other technical disciplines.
Specific computer applications including PLAXIS-3D, FLAC-3D, UniSettle, LPILE, SASSI, APILE,
GROUP, Shaft, Dyna5, GRLWEAP and Surfer.
Working knowledge of non-linear constitutive models for geological material as applied in FEM codes.
Knowledge of current computer applications for engineering and design including appropriate
knowledge of CAD (both 2-D and 3-D), finite element methods, lateral and vertical pile capacity, slope
stability, and other relevant standard computer applications to perform the work.

Job Description

You will be involved in structural


analysis, design and project
management. There is also potential
for you to take significant
responsibility within the teams,
dependent on your experience todate.
Core responsibilities will include:

Design foundations and


substructures associated with
large underground spaces
such as deep basements or
metro boxes

Design retaining wall systems

Design major temporary


works associated with
underground structures

Design to current Eurocodes

Be fully conversant with


soil/structure interaction
issues associated with belowground structures

Undertake budgeting and


cost control

Manage design work for other


team members

Travel as necessary for


project delivery

It is expected that you will bring


sufficient Ground Engineering and
Civil Engineering experience to the
existing team and be able to deliver
projects under the support and
guidance of our principal engineers
and project managers.
Essential requirements:

Degree in Civil Engineering or


Geotechnical Engineering or
equivalent but with a
preference for a Masters in
Civil Engineering or
equivalent

High level experience in


Civil/Geotechnical/Foundation
design

Additional experience in
offshore foundation design
e.g. wind turbines, would be
advantageous

Knowledge of client liaison


and building relationships

Understand the dynamics of


working with, and contributing
to, a team

Track record in major projects

Be an effective communicator
both written and spoken, with
all levels of staff and clients

Prepared to travel nationally


and internationally as needed
for any project
