ABSTRACT

Project Glass is a research and development program by Google to develop an augmented

reality Head Mounted display (HMD). The intended purpose of Google Glass would be
the hands free displaying of information currently available to most Smartphone users. It
consists of many features such as buttons, camera, micro-phone, video display etc.

that can communicate with the Internet via natural language voice commands.

While the frames do not currently have lenses fitted to them, Google is considering
partnerships with sunglass retailers such as Ray-Banor War by Parker, and may also open
retail stores to allow customers to try on the device. The Explorer Edition cannot be used
by people who wear prescription glasses, but Google has confirmed that Glass will
eventually work with frames and lenses that match the wearer's prescription; the glasses
will be modular and therefore possibly attachable to normal prescription glasses. On 26
Jan 2014, Google announced that they were adding four prescription frame choices for
about $225.00 U.S. It is necessary to remove a small screw in order to move the Google
Glass from one frame to another.

INTRODUCTION

Project Glass is a research and development program by Google to develop an augmented

reality Head Mounted display (HMD). The intended purpose of Google Glass would be
the hands free displaying of information currently available to most Smartphone users.

OVERVIEW

Project Glass was started by Babak Parviz

Glass is being developed by Google X Lab
Use 4G technology
Communicate with mobile phones through Wi-Fi
Display content on video screen as well as respond to voice command of the user.

Wearable Computing
Ambient Intelligence
Smart Clothing
Eye Tap Technology
4G Technology
Android Technology
Augmented Reality

1)Wearable Computing

Worn by the bearer under , with or on top of clothing . Developed for general or special
purpose information technologies and media development.

2)Ambient Intelligence

Electronic environments that are sensitive and responsive to the presence of people.
Devices work in concert to support people in carrying out their everyday life activities.

3)Smart Clothing

It is a combination of new fabric technology and digital technology. The clothing is

made with new signal-transfer fabric technology installed with digital devices.

4)Eye Tap Technology

Eye Tap is a device that is worn in front of the eye that acts as eye to record the scene
available to the eye as well as a display.

5)4G Technology

4G is the fourth generation of cell phone mobile communications. 4G Technology is

basically the extension in the 3G technology with more bandwidth and services offers in
the 3G. This system provides higher data rates of 100 Mbps in mobility to 1 Gbps while
stationary.

6)Android Technology

Android is a Linux-based operating for mobile devices such as smart phones and tablet
computers, developed by Google in conjunction with the Open handset Alliance.

7)Augmented Reality

Augmented reality is a live, direct or indirect, view of a physical, real-world

environment. Real-world elements are augmented by generated sensory input such as
sound, video, graphics or GPS data.

It consists of many features such as:

1)Button

A single button on the side of the frame sophisticates the glasses to work with the
physical touch input.

2)Speaker

Speaker is designed by the ear to make or receive calls.

3)Camera

It has the front facing video camera with which photos and videos can be taken in
glimpse.

4)Micro-phone

A microphone is also put in, that can take the voice commands of the wearer of user.
Microphone is also used for having telephonic communication.

5)Video Display

It has a small video display to display the pop up hands free information .

APPLICATIONS
Google Glass applications are free applications built by third-party developers.
Glass also uses many existing Google applications, such as Google Now, Google
Maps, Google+, and Gmail.
Third-party applications announced at South by Southwest (SXSW)
include Evernote, Sketch, The New York Times, and Path.
On April 15, 2013, Google released the Mirror API, allowing developers to start
making apps for Glass. In the terms of service, it is stated that developers may not
put ads in their apps or charge fees; a Google representative told The Verge that this
might change in the future.

Many developers and companies have built applications for Glass, including news
apps, facial recognition, exercise, photo manipulation, translation, and sharing to
social networks, such as Face book and Twitter.
On May 16, 2013, Google announced the release of seven new apps, including
reminders from Evernote, fashion news from Elle, and news alerts
from CNN. Following Google's XE7 Glass Explorer Edition update in early July
2013, evidence of a "Glass Boutique", a store that will allow synchronization to
Glass of Glassware and APKs, was noted.
Version XE8 made a debut for Google Glass on August 12, 2013. It brings an
integrated video player with playback controls, the ability to post an update to Path,
and lets users save notes to Evernote. Several other minute improvements include
volume controls, improved voice recognition, and several new Google Now cards.
On November 19, 2013, Google unveiled its Glass Development Kit, showcasing a
translation app Word Lens, a cooking app AllTheCooks, and an exercise app Starve
among others as successful examples.
