Overview
The world of professional accounting is a dynamic and growing field.
Accounting is more than just numbers it is quickly becoming the language
of business. Accountants analyse and communicate crucial financial information
to both company personnel and stakeholders, and are key employees in nearly
every company. Using extensive knowledge of both business and finance,
accountants provide the information that determines a companys decisions
and strategy. With the ability to evaluate complex financial and operational
information, accountants are uniquely capable of becoming business leaders
in a quickly globalising economy.
As Vietnam emerges as a major player in international business, the demand for
professionals who are able to interpret and communicate financial information
rises. RMIT Vietnams Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) program is designed
to equip you with the necessary skills and confidence to succeed in the field of
accounting. The program covers the disciplines of accounting including: financial
and management accounting; financial management; taxation; auditing; and

commercial law. You will also have the


opportunity to develop your expertise
and specialisation in other business
disciplines, including marketing,
economics and finance, management,
or entrepreneurship.
The Bachelor of Business
(Accountancy) program prepares
you with skills involving analysis,
project management and problem
solving. The program further prepares
you for work with a strong foundation
of business knowledge and the
ability to communicate effectively in

Each program at RMIT Vietnam comprises courses that are designed to promote one of four learning principles: establish, develop, extend or apply. These principles guide your academic
development and your preparation for positions within your chosen field.
By first undertaking courses that build foundational understanding in your chosen field, you will then have the opportunity to select either elective courses or an established minor to further extend
your skills in a specific specialisation. Finally, you will be able to consolidate your learning and gain work experience within professional internships guided by business experts.
Each program is designed to provide you with both the essential knowledge for your future career and the academic flexibility to pursue your unique interests. RMIT Vietnams programs

Course Details
Business Core Courses
Accounting in Organisations
and Society
This course introduces you to the role
of accounting information in business
and in society. You will learn the basic
principles underlying the production
of financial information and its use in
decision making by managers,
shareholders, lenders and investment
analysts. The course depicts
accounting as the language of
business communication and
establishes its relevance to students
of all business disciplines. Topics
studied are accounting techniques,
the preparation and interpretation
of financial statements, the relationship
between financial accounting
information, decision making and control.
Introduction to Management
This course provides you with an
engaging and accessible introduction
to the fundamental principles of
management. The course introduces
you to key arguments and debates
from a range of fields that inform the
study of business. The course builds
your awareness of the complex issues
that shape contemporary business
and management practice and to
consider future directions.

Prices and Markets

Commercial Law

This course establishes your


understanding of microeconomic
theory and its applications. You learn
how individual consumers and firms
behave, how markets function and
how prices are determined. Topics
studied are key microeconomic
concepts and analysis, economic
problems and interactions with policy
makers, contemporary economic and
public policy.

This course establishes your basic


understanding of commercial law, and
the concepts and principles relevant
to business and the accounting
professions. It provides you with the
knowledge and skills necessary to
pursue further and more specific
studies in the discipline of law as it
relates to the world of commerce.

Business Computing 1
This course establishes your skills
in problem solving for business
through the application of computer
technologies. You will also learn how
to effectively integrate Information
and Communication Technologies
(ICT) into business operations. Areas
considered are data bases, web and
spreadsheet technologies, business
reports and presentations.
Macroeconomics 1
This course establishes your
understanding of the workings of
the domestic economy and its
effects on the business environment.
You will learn how to analyse
domestic, regional and global
macroeconomic events and how
current economic developments
impact on organisations and on you
as a participant in the economy.

Business Statistics 1
This course establishes your
understanding of a range of statistical
techniques used by managers to
formulate business decisions. Areas
you will study include statistical
techniques and analysis and
interpretation using Microsoft Excel.
Examples are drawn from Accounting
(Auditing), Economics, Finance,
Financial Planning, Human Resource
Management, Information Technology,
Logistics and Transport and Marketing
areas of business.
Marketing Principles
Marketing Principles provides an
overview of the marketing process and
how it works within the Vietnamese
and Asian business context. It includes
the practical tools used by marketers
to implement marketing strategies
and campaigns. Areas explored are
the theory and practice of marketing,
and the importance of marketing
philosophy to future business viability.

Accountancy Core
Courses
Management Accounting
and Business
This course develops your
understanding of the role of the
management accountant and
management accounting information.
This course introduces methods
used to cost, predict and/or analyse
information related to the resources
needed by business. You will
understand the function and role of
management in the contemporary
business environment, perform
appropriate calculations to logically
support your recommendations for
business problems, and prepare a
range of reports for management and
other internal stakeholders to facilitate
planning, control and decision making.
Financial Accounting & Analysis
This course develops your
understanding of how the double
entry accounting system works
and the basic principles of financial
accounting. You will develop the
skills needed to identify, understand,
and apply basic financial accounting
principles to record business
transactions using manual and
computerised accounting systems.
You will learn how to prepare various
accounting reports and develop your
ability to analyse, reason logically,
understand and interpret basic
financial accounting concepts.

Cost Analysis and Applications


This course develops your
understanding of the concepts and
skills in management accounting and
business. This course also develops
your skill to analyse a number of
business decisions and problems.
You will identify cost information
requirements using a number of
management accounting techniques
and procedures. Then, you will apply
this cost information to real world
decisions and problems.

Financial Accountability & Reporting


This course develops your
understanding of how to construct and
interpret publicly available information,
including a companys annual report,
for decision making purposes. By
reviewing the regulations including key
accounting standards, you will also
develop the ability to understand this
publicly available financial information.

Accounting, Behaviour
and Organisations
This course provides you with
an opportunity to deepen your
understanding of the management
accounting tools and techniques.
You will focus on the issues
related to designing management
accounting systems that support
strategy and organisational structure.
Particular emphasis is given to the
role of performance-based measures
and rewards within contemporary
management accounting systems,
and the behaviours these factors
may encourage.
Company Law
This course will enable you to develop
a basic understanding of the legal
principles related to and the regulations
for registered companies. You will
develop the ability to understand and
interpret relevant legal principles of
company law and how to apply these
principles to hypothetical legal situations,
to critically analyse legal problems,
conduct effective legal research and
how to write in a precise manner using
appropriate legal terminology.
Performance Analysis
and Simulations
This course provides you with the
experience of being in a team that
manages and operates a company.
With your team, you will be
responsible for the strategic planning
and the operational decision making
of your company in a simulated
marketplace. This course builds on

knowledge and skills covered in your


studies to date, and your team will be
expected to use a range of business
performance evaluation techniques,
accounting reports and customer
survey data in its decision making.
Financial Accounting Theory
This course develops your ability
to examine various theories to help
you understand the role of financial
accounting in decision making.
It assists you by explaining why
and how entities make decisions
concerning disclosure of financial
information in the absence of
complete regulation. This course
helps you apply accounting theories
to a contemporary workplace
situation. It helps you understand
the growth of accounting around the
world and how cultural and other
local factors impact the development
of accounting and Accounting
Standards. A range of accounting
theories are examined and applied
to contemporary financial accounting
issues, including: the historical cost
model, alternative accounting models,
conceptual framework projects, debt
contracts, executive remuneration,
and sustainability reporting.

Electives Or Minors
The Bachelor of Business
(Accountancy) gives you the option
to undertake either four (4) general
electives or a minor. Both options
enable you to tailor your education
to fit your personal interests, your
career goals, or your desire to gain
professional accreditation.
Within the Bachelor of Business
(Accountancy) program, you may
choose from two options:

any other program offered at RMIT
Vietnam
A business minor comprising four
(4) established courses within a
business discipline. Business minors
are offered for the following:

Marketing
By selecting four (4) general
electives, you can freely explore
other disciplines and select courses
independently. However, if you
wish to extend your expertise in
a specific business area, you can
undertake a minor comprising four
(4) courses that are pre-selected
for a specific specialisation.

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

There are two ways to meet the academic entry requirements for this program:
Articulation from the Diploma of
Commerce

Direct entry into Bachelor of


Business (Accountancy)

Successful completion of Diploma


of Commerce at RMIT Vietnam.
Diploma students must achieve a
grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or
higher to guarantee placement.

Successful completion of Year 12


(or equivalent) with an average
grade of 7.00/10.00, or above.
