During the summit Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel and business leaders from both
countries will discuss Indias role in the global economy and perspectives for its future growth path. They will also take a look
at further opportunities to intensify the Indo-German Partnership.
For German businesses the Indian market becomes increasingly interesting. In particular since Prime Minister Modi took over
the leadership of the country in May 2014, the economic development of the country is followed carefully. Growth projections
for India are revised upwards, initial and important economic reforms are being implemented. Through his flagship project,
the campaign Make in India, Prime Minister Modi wants to strengthen India as a production location within the global
competition.

India sits at a tremendous demographic advantage, while the global labour force is ageing, India has a burgeoning youth
population. Indias current population of 1.2 billion is expected to enlarge to 1.8 billion by 2045. The significant aspect of this
increase relates to the expansion in the size of its working age (15-64 years) population.
While the opportunities are in terms of a demographic dividend, challenges of a persistent skill gap remain. Only 2 per cent of
the population is vocationally trained. There is an urgent need to reform the Vocational Education and Training system.
The question of reforming the VET system by adapting the German dual system has long been discussed the Indo German
Working Group on Vocational Training and Education. Both the Government of India and the Federal Government of
Germany have exhibited commitment in the area of vocational training with both governments agreeing to incorporate the
action of the Working Group into a 'roadmap' in the future for strategic planning purposes in India.
One of the breakthroughs has been the adaptation of the Apprenticeship scheme from the international partner to enable
efficient implementation of the amended Apprenticeship Act in India. One of the imperative learnings the group has identified
is the process of making vocational training aspirational. The fulcrum of the German dual system is the manner in which the
issue of horizontal and vertical progression is handled. The Indian side has made progress and has started adapting a few
features of the dual system. Training of Trainers (ToT) is integral to the dual system and aspects of the ToT have been
adapted in India.
The Expert Seminar will give indepth insight into the many opportunities that exist in skill development in India and areas in
which the dual system has gained prominence.

Numerous investment decisions are made at the Energy & Environmental Engineering display sector. The transition to
renewable forms of energy is and will remain one of our major themes over the next few years. At HANNOVER MESSE youll
find a series of high-caliber forums and thematic clusters to promote knowledge transfer and ensure the early identification of
important new trends and topics. Meet with decision-makers from business, the research community and government to find
out more about the steps being taken by todays enterprises to transform the current setup, consisting of a small number of
large-scale power plants, into one based on a multiplicity of small-scale power plants fueled by natural resources like natural
gas, solar, wind or biomass. Learn as well about the challenges this energy transition will entail, and use the forums and
conferences here to cultivate and expand your network of contacts.

Smart Grids Forum
Hall 13, Stand C35
13 17 April 2015, 10:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m.
What does the secure, efficient, sustainable and competitive power supply system of the future look like?
Energy demand is rising worldwide, but in most regions - even in developed countries - the infrastructure is aging. Also, as
renewable energies gain importance, demands on the power grid are rising, with volatile and decentralized power supply
threatening its stability. Both the political and business spheres are calling for comprehensive renovation of the energy
infrastructure, and closer coordination between energy generation, distribution, storage and consumption.
The Smart Grids Forum offers lectures from experts and panel discussions. It is integrated in the themed presentation Smart
Grids and is supported by the German Federation of the New Energy Economy (bne), the German Trade & Invest, the
German Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies (VDE) and the German Electrical and Electronic
Manufacturers' Association (ZVEI).

The fourth Industrial Revolution with intelligent machines and devices requires the development of new digital services and
business models: a Smart Service World. Everything-as-a-service (XaaS) offerings will allow new products and services from all sectors to be bundled together. This will create new industry sectors and markets for software providers and
industry concerns alike.
All industry nations are faced with the same task: mastering the different challenges created by the fourth industrial revolution.
A number of studies show that German managers are significantly more skeptical about the potential added value of
digitization than their international counterparts. Policy makers and industry associations however warn that Germany cannot
afford to lose its globally leading automation position in the digital world.
The panel discussion allows representatives from both the old and new economies to state their respective positions to
INDUSTRIE 4.0 and smart services.
