1. How are independent samples t-tests and One-way ANOVAs similar?

How do the
two tests differ?
They both are used to compare means of samples. But one sample t test is can be
applied only to 2 independent samples. And onw way ANOVA to 2 or more
smaples.

Question 2. 2. What is the F-ratio? That is, what makes up the top and bottom portions of
the F-ratio?
F ratio = MSB/MSW
When F > F(dfMSB, DFMSW), I reject Ho at 5% level of significance and
conclude that the means are significant. Else I fail to reject Ho.

Question 3. 3.
A social psychologist conducted a study examining the effectiveness of two persuasion
techniques. She found the following information in her ANOVA table:
SS between = 45.55
SS within = 30.22
SS total = 75.77
Using eta squared, calculate the effect size for her study? What does this mean?
ETA SQUARE = ssb/sst
=45.55/75.77
0.601161
Large effect

Question 11. 11. A clinical psychologist is examining the effects of different types of
therapy on reducing schizophrenic symptoms. Patients are assigned to no therapy,
psychoanalysis, behavioral therapy, or cognitive therapy. The ANOVA is significant.
What should the psychologist do next?
Since the anova is significance, I can say that at least one of the group means differs
significantly. And hence, I should proceed further with post hoc comparisons to find
which among pairs of groups means are different.

Which effects are significant?

F CRITICAL = F(1.20,0.05) = 4.35 (same for all three as df=1 is same for all)
Since, all F > F critical, I reject Ho at 5% level of significance and conclude that all
effects are significant.
