DESIGN METHODOLOGY
THE STRUCTURE
Vehicular under Pass of span of 12.0m x 6.0m ht is required to be provided for 12m length.
DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
THE STRUCTURE
The structure is analysed by moment distribution method. The loads and moments due to dead
load of the Box slab have been calculated from first principle. The SIDL (earth fill, crash
barrier, wearing coat and footpath) were applied on the Box on appropriate members. The live
load analysis involved placing the loads at the maximum moment location on the span.
Live load analysis consists of
1. Class A 11.4 Ton Axles with impact
2. Class 70R 40 Ton Bogie Axle with impact
3. Class 70R Tracked with impact
Earth Pressure and Water pressure were applied on the walls of the box. Earth pressure
coefficient of 0.5 (Ko) is considered in the design.
The moments obtained from the analysis were summarized and the loads were combined as
DL+SIDL+Max LL+EP+Water
The slab and wall members are designed as a Reinforced Concrete Member for Limit State as
per IRC-112:2011.
The results have been summarized and the design is done for the worst case.

Design of return wall :Design Philosophy:This return wall is monlitic with Box Structure. It is monolitic with Box wall along vertical Plane and is
monolithic with raft of Box in horizontal Plane. For analysis purpose fixity of return wall along raft of box
in horizontal plane is ignored due to smaller length of fixity. Due to earth pressure wall acts as cantilever
fixed at box wall and free at other end. Hence wall bends along horizontal plane.
* Designed for max height of 7.6 m & max length 600mm & same design is applicable to all .
