Canadian Armed Forces
BGen Martin Girard joined the
Canadian Forces in June 1981 and
started at College Militaire Royal
de St-Jean on 15 August 1981. He
was transferred to the Royal
Military College of Canada in
Kingston in 1982 where he graduated from RMCC in Electrical
Engineering in May 1986. His first
posting was B Tel O for CFB
Gagetown from 1987-1989.
He has served in numerous
operational, staff and project
appointments at NDHQ and the
operational commands such as
Chief Engineer DWAN, EA
ADM IM, CF Deputy J6,
CEFCOM J6, CANOSCOM OS
J3 and COS.
BGen Girard also served in three
operational deployments: First
Gulf War (1990-1991) as second
in command of 1 Ptarmigan
Squadron of 1st (UK) Armoured
Division HQ and Signal Regiment;
Bosnia (2002-2003) as Commander Signal Support Group SFOR; Haiti (2008-2009) as Task
Force Commander Port au Prince and Chief of Staff MINUSTAH for which he received a
Meritorious Service Medal in November 2010.
BGen Girard has commanded and reluctantly relinquished command at CFS Leitrim (20002002), CFSCE (2003-2005) and CFSSG (2012-2014).
He is a graduate from Canadian Land Forces Command and Staff College (1993),
Advanced Signal Officer Course, Canadian Forces College (1998) and National Security
Programme (2012). He also received a Masters Degree in Telecommunication Management at
the Royal Military College of Canada (1996). BGen Girard has been appointed as an officer
to the Order of Military Merit on the 25th of October 2011
Promoted to Brigadier-General on 29 May 2014, he has been appointed Director General
Military Signal Intelligence and Deputy Commander Canadian Forces Intelligence
Command.

Le BGen Martin Girard se joint aux
Forces canadiennes en juin 1981. Il entreprend ses tudes au Collge militaire royal
de St-Jean le 15 aot 1981. En 1982, il est
mut au Collge militaire royal Kingston,
d'o il ressort avec un baccalaurat en gnie
lectrique en mai 1986. Il a t affect pour
sa premire mutation comme O Tl B de la
BFC Gagetown de 1987-1989.
Il occupe de nombreux postes oprationnels, d'tat-major et il assume diverses
fonctions dans le cadre de projets au
Quartier gnral de la Dfense nationale et
dans les commandements oprationnels,
tels qu'ingnieur en chef du Rseau tendu
de la Dfense, chef de cabinet du Sousministre adjoint (Gestion de l'information),
J6 adjoint des FC, J6 du Commandement
de la Force expditionnaire du Canada et J3
et Chef d`tat-major du Commandement
du soutien oprationnel du Canada.
Le BGen Girard participe galement trois
dploiements oprationnels. Tout d'abord
pendant la premire guerre du Golfe (1990-1991) en qualit de cmdtA du 1 Ptarmigan Squadron du
quartier gnral de la 1st (UK) Armoured Division et du Signal Regiment; puis en Bosnie (20022003), comme cmdt du Groupe de soutien aux transmissions de la Force de stabilisation (SFOR);
et enfin Hati (2008-2009) en tant que cmdt de la Force oprationnelle Port au Prince et chef
d'tat-major de la Mission des Nations unies pour la stabilisation en Hati (MINUSTAH), ce qui lui
a valu une mdaille du service mritoire en novembre 2010.
Le BGen Girard a t cmdt de la SFC Leitrim (2000-2002), de l'cole d'lectronique et des
communications des Forces canadiennes (EECFC) (2003-2005), et du Groupe de service partag
des forces canadienne (2012-2014).
Le BGen Girard est diplm du Collge de commandement et d'tat-major de la Force terrestre
canadienne (CCEMFTC) (1993), du Cours d'officier des transmissions Niveau avanc, du Collge
des Forces canadiennes (1998) et du programme de scurit national (2012). De plus, il dtient une
matrise en gestion des tlcommunications du Collge militaire royal (1996). Le Col Girard a t
honor de l'insigne de l'Ordre du mrite militaire le 25 janvier 2011.
Promu au grade de Brigadier-Gnral le 29 mai 2014, il est maintenant le Directeur Gnral SIGINT Militaire et Commandant-Adjoint du Commandement du Renseignement des Forces
Canadiennes.
