Hi All,

93
Again reading HPB, Isis Unveiled, Chapter 8 of Volume II, some information comes through that
relates to the Word of the Neophyte of the A.'.A.'.
"Respect. K. S. Warden. -- It is the first hour of the day, the time when the veil of the temple was rent asunder, when darkness and consternation
were spread over the earth -- when the light was darkened -- when the implements of Masonry were broken -- when the flaming star
disappeared -- when the cubic stone was broken -- when the 'WORD' was lost." -- Magna est Veritas et Praevalebit.

The Hebrew Kabbalists revealed the Cubic Stone of Yesod precisely in sex, in the creative organs; thus, this is transcendental. It is obvious that
this Sephirotic Stone was also analyzed by the Great Medieval Alchemists. By all means, the famous Philosophical Stone of ancient sages is
shown with complete meridian clarity. To edify is indispensable, my dear brethren, but it must be done upon the living stone, whose foundation
is sex.

M. Chreau was a member in good standing, of the Grand Orient at Paris. Not only that, he was a member of the Chevaliers de la Croix, a very
exclusive Order of Knights. The Chevaliers de la Croix were associated with the same Templar Order which Fabre-Palaprat ran. Chreau also
was a member of the Ordre de l'Orient, Order of the Orient, or East. This was related to the Baron Tschoudy's organization of Knights of the
East.
The Cubic Stone, which Chreau gave his explanation of, is presented below.

In Chreau's estimation, this Stone represented the Key to Nature, much like we see in the speculations of the Rosicrucians and the Alchemists,
like Robert Fludd, Heinrich Khunrath, Jakob Boehme, and others.
In this stone, we see the Masonic cypher used by the Rite. Then we see an enigmatic magical square of letters, topped off by a triangle
containing the word Schemhammphorasch. Next we get a square, divided into eight parts, surrounded by the numbers, which are to be drawn
from that square. Then we get a series of concentric circles and squares, finally the seven planets. The jewels of the officers are shown at the

corners of each face of the stone, and on one face, that with the magical square, we get four series of three numbers, such as 9, 81, 729. This
engraving appears in Waite's New Encyclopaedia of Freemasonry, but it originally appeared in Chreau's work.

The Flaming Star is the Pentagram. However, this quote is worth seeking greater explanation;
and so I'll quote first from Albert Pike:
Let us listen for a few moments to the Alchemists themselves, and endeavor to learn the hidden meaning of their mysterious
words.
The RITUAL of the Degree of Scottish Elder MASTER, and Knight of Saint Andrew, being the fourth Degree of Ramsay, it is said
upon the title-page, or of the Reformed or Rectified Rite of Dresden, has these passages:
"O how great and glorious is the presence of the Almighty God which gloriously shines from between the Cherubim!
"How adorable and astonishing are the rays of that glorious Light, that sends forth its bright and brilliant beams from the Holy Ark
of Alliance and Covenant!
"Let us with the deepest veneration and devotion adore the great Source of Life, that Glorious Spirit Who is the Most Merciful and
Beneficent Ruler of the Universe and of all the creatures it contains!
"The secret knowledge of the Grand Scottish Master relates to the combination and transmutation of different substances; where
of that you may obtain a clear idea and proper understanding, you are to know that all matter and all material substances are
composed of combinations of three several substances, extracted from the four elements, which three substances in combination
are, Salt, Sulphur, and Spirit. The first of these produces Solidity, the second Softness, and the third the Spiritual, vaporous
particles. These three compound substances work potently together; and therein consists the true process for the transmutation of
metals.
"To these three substances allude the three golden basins, in the first of which was engraved the letter M.'., in the second, the
letter G.'., and in the third nothing. The first, M.'., is the initial letter of the Hebrew word Malakh, which signifies Salt; and the
second, G.'., of the Hebrew word Geparaith, which signifies Sulphur; and as there is no word in Hebrew to express the vaporous
and intangible Spirit, there is no letter in the third basin.
"With these three principal substances you may effect the transmutation of metals, which must be done by means of the five
points or rules of the Scottish Mastership.
"The first Master's point shows us the Brazen Sea, wherein must always be rain-water; and out of this rain-water the Scottish
Masters extract the first substance, which is Salt; which salt must afterward undergo a seven-fold manipulation and purification,
before it will be properly prepared. This sevenfold purification is symbolized by the Seven Steps of Solomon's Temple, which
symbol is furnished us by the first point or rule of the Scottish Masters.
"After preparing the first substance, you are to extract the second, Sulphur, out of the purest gold, to which must then be added
the purified or celestial Salt. They are to be mixed as the Art directs, and then placed in a vessel in the form of a SHIP, in which it
is to remain, as the Ark of Noah was afloat, one hundred and fifty days, being brought to the first damp, warm degree of fire, that it
may putrefy and produce the mineral fermentation This is the second point or rule of the Scottish Masters."
If you reflect, my Brother, that it was impossible for any one to imagine that either common salt or nitre could be extracted from
rain-water, or sulphur from pure gold, you will no doubt suspect that some secret meaning was concealed in these words.
The Kabalah considers the immaterial part of man as threefold, consisting of NEPHESCH, RUACH, and NESCHAMAH, Psyche,
Spiritus, and Mens, or Soul, Spirit, and Intellect. There are Seven Holy Palaces, Seven Heavens and Seven Thrones; and Souls
are purified by ascending through Seven Spheres. A Ship, in Hebrew, is Ani; and the same word means I, Me, or Myself.
The RITUAL, continues:
"Multiplying the substance thus obtained, is the third operation, which is done by adding to them the animate, volatile Spirit which
is done by means of the water of the Celestial Salt, as well as by the Salt, which must daily be added to it very carefully, and
strictly observing to put neither too much nor too little; inasmuch as, if you add too much, you will destroy that growing and
multiplying substance; and if too little, it will be self-consumed and destroyed, and shrink away, not having sumcient substantiality
for its preservation. This third point or rule of the Scottish Masters gives us the emblem of the building of the Tower of Babel, used
by our Scottish Masters, because by irregularity and want of due proportion and harmony that work was stopped; and the
workmen could proceed no further.
"Next comes the fourth operation, represented by the Cubical Stone, whose faces and angles are all equal. As soon as the work is
brought to the necessary point of multiplication, it is to be submitted to the third Degree of Fire, wherein it will receive the due
proportion of the strength and substance of the metallic particles of the Cubical Stone; and this is the fourth point or rule of the
Scottish Masters.
"Finally, we come to the fifth and last operation, indicated to us by the Flaming Star. After the work has become a dulyproportioned substance, it is to be subjected to the fourth and strongest Degree of fire, wherein it must remain three times twentyseven hours; until it is thoroughly glowing, by which means it becomes a bright and shining tincture, wherewith the lighter metals
may be changed, by the use of one part to a thousand of the metal. Wherefore this Flaming Star shows us the fifth and last point
of the Scottish Masters.
"You should pass practically through the five points or rules of the Master, and by the use of one part to a thousand, transmute
and ennoble metals. You may then in reality say that your age is a thousand years."
In the oration of the Degree, the following hints are given as to its true meaning:
"The three divisions of the Temple, the Outer Court, Sanctuary, and Holy of Holies, signify the three Principles of our Holy Order,
which direct to the knowledge of morality, and teach those most practical virtues that ought to be practised by mankind. Therefore
the Seven Steps which lead up to the Outer Court of the Temple, are the emblem of the Seven-fold Light which we need to
possess, before we can arrive at the height of knowledge, in which consist the ultimate limits of our order.
"In the Brazen Sea we are symbolically to purify ourselves from all pollutions, all faults and wrongful actions, as well those
committed through error of judgment and mistaken opinion, as those intentionally done; inasmuch as they equally prevent us from
arriving at the knowledge of True Wisdom. We must thoroughly cleanse and purify our hearts to their inmost recesses, before we
can of right contemplate that Flaming Star, which is the emblem of the Divine and Glorious Shekinah, or presence of God; before
we may dare approach the Throne of Supreme Wisdom."
In the Degree of The True Mason [Le Vrai Macon], styled in the title-page of its Ritual the 23d Degree of Masonry, or the 12th of
the 5th class, the Tracing-board displays a luminous Triangle, with a great Yod in the centre.

"The Triangle," says the Ritual, "represents one God in three Persons; and the great Yod is the initial letter of the last word.
"The Dark Circle represents the Chaos, which in the beginning God created.
"The Cross within the Circle, the Light by means whereof He developed the Chaos.
"The Square, the four Elements into which it was resolved.
"The Triangle, again, the three Principles [Salt, Sulphur, and Mercury], which the intermingling of the elements produced.
"God creates; Nature produces; Art multiplies. God created Chaos; Nature produced it; God, Nature, and Art, have perfected it.
"The Altar of Perfumes indicates the Fire that is to be applied to Nature. The two towers are the two furnaces, moist and dry, in
which it is to be worked. The bowl is the mould of oak that is to inclose the philosophal egg.
"The two figures surmounted by a Cross are the two vases, Nature and Art, in which is to be consummated the double marriage of
the white woman with the red Servitor, from which marriage will spring a most Potent King.
"Chaos means universal matter, formless, but susceptible of all forms. Form is the Light inclosed in the seeds of all species; and
its home is in the Universal Spirit.
"To work on universal matter, use the internal and external fire: the four elements result, the Principia Principiorum and Inmediata;
Fire, Air, Water, Earth. There are four qualities of these elements--the warm and dry, the cold and moist. Two appertain to each
element: The dry and cold, to the Earth; the cold and moist, to Water; the moist and warm, to the Air; and the warm and dry, to
Fire: whereby the Fire connects with the Earth; all the elements, as Hermes said, moving in circles.
"From the mixture of the four Elements and of their four qualities, result the three Principles,--Mercury, Sulphur, and Salt. These
are the philosophical, not the vulgar.
"The philosophical Mercury is a Water and SPIRIT, which dissolves and sublimates the Sun; the philosophical Sulphur, a fire and a
SOUL, which mollifies and colors it; the philosophical Salt, an Earth and a BODY, which coagulates and fixes it; and the whole is
done in the bosom of the Air.
"From these three Principles result the four Elements duplicated, or the Grand Elements, Mercury, Sulphur, Salt, and Glass; two of
which are volatile,--the Water [Mercury] and the Air [Sulphur], which is oil; for all substances liquid in their nature avoid fire, which
takes from the one [water] and burns the other [oil]; but the other two are dry and solid, to wit, the Salt, wherein Fire is contained,
and the pure F,arth, which is the Glass; on both of which the Fire has no other action than to melt and refine them, unless one
makes use of the liquid alkali; for, just as each element consists of two qualities, so these great duplicated Elements partake, each
of two of the simple elements, or, more properly speaking, of all the four, according to the greater or less degree of each,--the
Mercury partaking more of the Water, to which it is assigned; the Oil or Sulphur, more of the Air; the Salt, of the Fire; and the
Glass, of the Earth; which is found, pure and clear, in the centre of all the elementary composites, and is the last to disengage
itself from the others.
"The four Elements and three Principles reside in all the Compounds, Animal, Vegetable, and Mineral; but more potently in some
than in others.
"The Fire gives them Movement; the Air, Sensation; the Water, Nutriment; and the Earth, Subsistence.
"The four duplicated Elements engender THE STONE, if one is careful enough to supply them with the proper quantity of fire, and
to combine them according to their natural weight. Ten parts of Air make one of Water; ten of Water, one of Earth; and ten of
Earth, one of Fire; the whole by the Active Symbol of the one, and the Passive Symbol of the other, whereby the conversion of the
Elements is effected."
The Allusion of the Ritual, here, is obviously to the four Worlds of the Kabalah. The ten Sephiroth of the world Briah proceed from
Malakoth, the last of the ten Emanations of the world Aziquth; the ten Sephiroth of the world Yezirah, from Malakoth of Briah; and
the ten of the world Asiah, from Malakoth of Yezirah. The Pass-word of the Degree is given as Metralon, which is a corruption of
METATRON, the Cherub, who and Sandalphon are in the Kabalah the Chief of the Angels. The Active and Passive Symbols are
the Male and Female.
The Ritual continues:
"It is thereby evident that, in the Great Work, we rnust employ ten parts of philosophical Mercury to one of Sun or Moon.
"This is attained by Solution and Coagulation. These words mean that we must dissolve the body and coagulate the spirit; which
operations are effected by the moist and dry bath.
"Of colors, black is the Earth; white, the Water; blue, the Air; and red, the Fire; wherein also are involved very great secrets and
mysteries.
"The apparatus employed in 'The Great Work' consists of the Moist bath, the Dry bath, the Vases of Nature and Art, the bowl of
oak, lutum sapientiae, the Seal of Hermes, the tube, the physical lamp, and the iron rod.
"The work is perfected in seventeen philosophical months, according to the mixture of ingredients. The benefits reaped from it are
of two kinds--one affecting the soul, and the other the body. The former consist in knowing God, Nature, and ourself; and those to
the body are wealth and health.
"The Initiate traverses Heaven and Earth. Heaven is the World manifest to the Intelligence, subdivided into Paradise and Hell;
Earth is the World manifest to the Senses, also subdivided into the Celestial and that of the Elements.
"There are Sciences specially connected with each of these. The one is ordinary and common; the other, mystic and secret. The
World cognizable by the Intellect has the Hermetic Theology and the Kabalah; the Celestial Astrology; and that of the Elements,
Chemistry, which by its decompositions and separations, effected by fire, reveals all the most hidden secrets of Nature, in the
three kinds of Compound Substances. This last science is styled 'Hermetic,' or 'The operating of the Great Work.'"

From Liber Ararita:

Also I welded together the Flaming Star and the Sixfold Star in the forge of my soul, and
behold! a new star 418 that is above all these.
From the Sepher Sephiroth of the English Qabalah:
Chariot

1774 by AIQ BKR is 1 and Cheth (attributed to this Atu) is 8; hence, 1 in 8 as per Liber AL vel Legis.
258 is equivalent to the phrase Flaming Star in EQ which descendeth from heaven and a reference to both
Liber Tzaddi and Revelations.
To continue w/HPB's work:
This Masonic commandment, "mouth to ear, and the word at low breath," is an inheritance from the Tanaim and the old Pagan Mysteries. Its
modern use must certainly be due to the indiscretion of some renegade kabalist, though the "word" itself is but a "substitute" for the "lost
word," and is a comparatively modern invention, as we will further show. The real sentence has remained forever in the sole possession of the
adepts of various countries of the Eastern and Western hemispheres. Only a limited number among the chiefs of the Templars, and some
Rosicrucians of the seventeenth century, always in close relations with Arabian alchemists and initiates, could really boast of its possession.
From the seventh to the fifteenth centuries there was no one who could claim it in Europe; and although there had been alchemists before the
days of Paracelsus, he was the first who had passed through the true initiation, that last ceremony which conferred on the adept the power of
travelling toward the "burning bush" over the holy ground, and to "burn the golden calf in the fire, grind it to powder, and strow it upon the
water." Verily, then, this magic water, and the "lost word," resuscitated more than one of the pre-Mosaic Adonirams, Gedaliahs, and Hiram
Abiffs. The real word now substituted by Mac Benac and Mah was used ages before its pseudo-magical effect was tried on the "widow's sons"
of the last two centuries.
"To him that overcometh, will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a WHITE STONE, and in the stone a new name written" -the word -- which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it, what Master Mason can doubt but it refers to the last head-line of this chapter?

-- JAH-BUH-LUN.

Jabulon of course, is an important word for Crowley's OTO as discussed in a previous message
sent to this list. And it is not the word of the Neophyte, which itself really remains "lost" as will
soon be shown.
Then the Egyptian neophyte was made a Kristophores. In this degree the mystery-name of IAO was communicated to him. The fifth degree
was that of Balahala, and he was instructed by Horus, in alchemy, the "word" being chemia. In the sixth, the priestly dance in the circle was
taught him, in which he was instructed in astronomy, for it represented the course of the planets. In the seventh degree, he was initiated into the
final Mysteries. After a final probation in a building set apart for it, the Astronomus, as he was now called, emerged from these sacred
apartments called Manneras, and received a cross -- the Tau, which, at death, had to be laid upon his breast. He was a hierophant.

It continues to fascinate me; the connection between the Greek mystery schools and the Egyptian
mystery schools. IAO is the first name of God that a Thelemite is taught as found of course, in
the Star Ruby. And further, the serious student of Thelema quickly learns that Alchemy is
fundamental to our system of attainment; how especially interesting it is that the God that sits on
Ra's throne (per Thelemic Doctrine) is Horus and that Horus is connected with this Alchemy.
In the Egyptian notions, as in those of all other faiths founded on philosophy, man was not merely, as with the Christians, a union of soul and
body; he was a trinity when spirit was added to it. Besides, that doctrine made him consist of kha -- body; khaba -- astral form, or shadow; ka -animal soul or life-principle; ba -- the higher soul; and akh -- terrestrial intelligence. They had also a sixth principle named Sah -- or mummy;
but the functions of this one commenced only after the death of the body. After due purification, during which the soul, separated from its body,
continued to revisit the latter in its mummified condition, this astral soul "became a God," for it was finally absorbed into "the Soul of the
world." It became transformed into one of the creative deities, "the god of Phtah," (In the eighty-first chapter of the "Ritual" the soul is called
the germ of lights and in the seventy-ninth the Demiurgos, or one of the creators.) the Demiurgos, a generic name for the creators of the world,
rendered in the Bible as the Elohim. In the Ritual the good or purified soul, "in conjunction with its higher or uncreated spirit, is more or less
the victim of the dark influence of the dragon Apophis. If it has attained the final knowledge of the heavenly and the infernal mysteries -- the
gnosis, i.e., complete reunion with the spirit, it will triumph over its enemies; if not the soul could not escape its second death. It is 'the lake that
burneth with fire and brimstone' (elements), into which those that are cast undergo a 'second death' " ["Ritual," vi, 44; Champollion:
"Manifestations to the Light"; Lepsius: "Book of the Dead"; Bunsen: "Egypt's Place in Universal History."] (Apocalypse). This death is the
gradual dissolution of the astral form into its primal elements, alluded to several times already in the course of this work. But this awful fate
can be avoided by the knowledge of the "Mysterious Name" -- the "Word," (We cannot help quoting a remark by Baron Bunsen in relation to
the "Word" being identical with the "Ineffable Name" of the Masons and the kabalists. While explaining the "Ritual," some of the details of
which "resemble rather the enchantments of a magician than solemn rites, although a hidden and mystical meaning must have been attached to
them" (the honest admission of this much, at least, is worth something), the author observes: "The mystery of names, the knowledge of which
was a sovereign virtue, and which, at a later period, degenerated into the rank heresy (?) of the Gnostics and the magic of enchanters, appears to
have existed not only in Egypt but elsewhere. Traces of it are found in the 'Cabala' . . . it prevailed in the Greek and Asiatic mythology"
("Egypt's Place, etc.," p. 147).) say the kabalists.

Thelemic Doctine has viewed the body more in terms of Alchemy as understood today; with 3
levels to being: Body, Soul & Spirit. The Soul is the center and it must identify with both Body and
Spirit in the attainment of immortality (full awareness of being). In our doctrine, the soul must be

taught and empowered to survive the "second death" of which the superstitious religions have
never given to the masses (who really couldn't understand nor even want to). But the Word
needed is shown here to be one with the "Ineffable Name" of God.
In the book called by Champollion La Manifestation a la Lumiere, there is a chapter on the Ritual which is full of mysterious dialogues, with
addresses to various "Powers" by the soul. Among these dialogues there is one which is more than expressive of the potentiality of the "Word."
The scene is laid in the "Hall of the Two Truths." The "Door," the "Hall of Truth," and even the various parts of the gate, address the soul which
presents itself for admission. They all forbid it entrance unless it tells them their mystery, or mystic names. What student of the Secret
Doctrines can fail to recognize in these names an iden tity of meaning and purpose with those to be met with in the Vedas, the later works of the
Brahmans, and the Kabala?
Magicians, Kabalists, Mystics, Neo-platonists and Theurgists of Alexandria, who so surpassed the Christians in their achievements in the
secret science; Brahmans or Samaneans (Shamans) of old; and modern Brahmans, Buddhists, and Lamaists, have all claimed that a certain
power attaches to these various names, pertaining to one ineffable Word. We have shown from personal experience how deeply the belief is
rooted to this day in the popular mind all over Russia,* that the Word works "miracles" and is at the bottom of every magical feat. Kabalists
mysteriously connect Faith with it. So did the apostles, basing their assertions on the words of Jesus, who is made to say: "If ye have faith as a
grain of mustard seed . . . nothing shall be impossible unto you," and Paul, repeating the words of Moses, tells that "the WORD is nigh thee,
even in thy mouth, and in thy heart; that is, the word of faith" (Romans x. 8). But who, except the initiates, can boast of comprehending its full
significance?

It is said that 'faith is being open to that which one hopes to receive'. There is really a very
complex psychology behind this, though I have experimented with tapping into this source. The
slightest failure can be very disturbing. Suffice to say that the idea of deciding simply to believe in
one god or another has very little to do with faith. Belief actually comes from a verb that means
'to wish;' something altogether different from faith, which in itself is based on knowledge or
Gnosis.
In our days it is as it was in olden times, to believe in the biblical "miracles" requires faith; but to be enabled to produce them one's self
demands a knowledge of the esoteric meaning of the "word." "If Christ," say Dr. Farrar and Canon Westcott, "wrought no miracles, then the
gospels are untrustworthy." But even supposing that he did work them, would that prove that gospels written by others than himself are any
more trustworthy? And if not, to what purpose is the argument? Besides, such a line of reasoning would warrant the analogy that miracles
performed by other religionists than Christians ought to make their gospels trustworthy. Does not this imply at least an equality between the
Christian Scriptures and the Buddhist sacred books? For these equally abound with phenomena of the most astounding character. Moreover, the
Christians have no longer genuine miracles produced through their priests, for they have lost the Word. But many a Buddhist Lama or Siamese
Talapoin -- unless all travellers have conspired to lie -- has been and now is able to duplicate every phenomenon described in the New
Testament, and even do more, without any pretence of suspension of natural law or divine intervention either. In fact, Christianity proves that it
is as dead in faith as it is dead in works, while Buddhism is full of vitality and supported by practical proofs.
The potency contained in the Mantras and the Vach of the Brahmans is as much believed in at this day as it was in the early Vedic period. The
"Ineffable Name" of every country and religion relates to that which the Masons affirm to be the mysterious characters emblematic of the nine
names or attributes by which the Deity was known to the initiates. The Omnific Word traced by Enoch on the two deltas of purest gold, on
which he engraved two of the mysterious characters, is perhaps better known to the poor, uneducated "heathen" than to the highly
accomplished Grand High Priests and Grand Z.'s of the Supreme Chapters of Europe and America. Only why the companions of the Royal
Arch should so bitterly and constantly lament its loss, is more than we can understand. This word of M. M. is, as they will tell themselves,
entirely composed of consonants. Hence, we doubt whether any of them could ever have mastered its pronunciation, had it even been "brought
to light from the secret vault," instead of its several corruptions. However, it is to the land of Mizraim that the grandson of Ham is credited with
having carried the sacred delta of the Patriarch Enoch. Therefore, it is in Egypt, and in the East alone that the mysterious "Word" must be
sought.

"This word of M.M." is the source of debate in Thelemic circles as can easily be found on the Net.
Is is MTzTBTzM or MAUM?...or something else? And what power behind this; what kind of faith
can actually empower the Word? This is what has been missed. Although I think a hint has also
been given in the New Testament, when we see that Jesus is presented as a promoter of the
power of Love. It sits so very much right in front of us and yet, it seems most Thelemites can't
see it, being so deluded by power and Will.
Love is the law, love under will. What does this tell us? That Love is "under" Will does not mean
that it is less than Will or subservient to it. Rather, Love is the base or platform (the nature of
creation in the Universe) from which Will manifests. The Elohim spoken of (above) by HPB are
the demiourgos; creative gods or generative forces of the power of Love. "All you need is love"
per John Lennon.
The ancient Gnostics erred in their blatant condemnation of the Demiourgos as they erred in their
eschewment of the material Universe, which is itself a manifestation of the ineffable divinity

(Pleroma). We can see this clearly in our Integrative Age, but they only found the Spiritual Age,
which requires the equal and opposite reaction of a Material Age.
