The North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation also known as NORCECA is basically
an integrated, non-profit organization that is completely accountable for various volleyball events that
take place in its region. It basically is the central association that represents the 35 member countries at
FIVB or International Volleyball Federation. The Association is in charge of many other things, such as
hosting of Olympic & World Championship Zone tournaments, as well as the central competitions or

2003 that NORCECA celebrated its 35th (thirty-fifth) anniversary.

During the 1966 when Caribbean & Central American Games took place in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the
notion of the NORCECA concept was thought of. At that point of time it was recognized as the
Caribbean & Central American Zone. The growth of the NORCECA Confederation originated from the
idealistic mind of Dr. Rubn Hernndez (todays former FIVB President,) in unification with numerous
other athlete from Puerto Rico, Haiti and Cuba. NORCECA was officially created by the FIVB with Mr.
Paul Liband as its President, in 1968, when Canada & United States of America became a part of the
Confederation. Its first Senior Championship was held in Mexico from 4th of Aug to 9th of Aug, 1969 and
the opening game introduced Haiti vs. Panama, which Haiti won the match by 3-0. NORCECAs first
Junior Championship was played in the year 1980.
