1. In 4 paragraphs or less please write how your understanding of DSS has changed since
you started this class 4 weeks ago.
When I started this class I have no clue what is meant by DSS, but now I have ample
knowledge about DSS and its working. DSS is nothing but Decision Support System, the
decision support system helps us in many ways in day to day life. DSS is there everywhere from
small business to large scale organization depending on their requirements.
The decision support system is the interactive software which collects data from
everywhere which will be helpful for the organization or the business owners to take critical
decision.
Lets assume we are starting an Online shopping website. To gain better profit we should
target on the customers who is in the age group 18 to 25. Also, we should know the details like
who and all visiting the website and there details.
So in this case, we can create a decision support system which can monitor the website
and the users watching the website and also it collects the information. Thus, after collecting all
the information it will show in the manner where we can take decisions easily. The decision
support system gives exact answers for the questions like, what exactly the customers are
searching in our website, Age group of the customers etc.

2. What do you think are the greatest shortcomings of DSS today and how would you
propose to improve them? Please keep your response to 4 paragraphs or less.
The decision support system helps us for taking critical decision. There are chances
where the decision support system fails to give proper information and also it can stop us
from thinking. The decision support system is the software which is always used by the
business managers and the owners of the very big organizations where they are well trained
to take important decisions. Because of the DSS the person who has the talent to think and
take his own decision is not thinking and simply relies on the DSS.
Without a DSS, a person who makes wrong choice can just point the finger at
himself, so he can better approach a comparative circumstance later on. But after the DSS is
introduced rather than allocating the fault to himself, the client may accuse the DSS. The
self-awareness that could have happened from comprehension the poor choice may rather
bring about the client figuring out how to be faulted the PC for any choice making wrong
decisions.
Because of the DSS the decision making skills of the humans is slowly deteriorating
and we started depending on the computers for all the day to day works and for taking
decisions.
